Let me know what makes a great wart/gauss/rockethog driver. I’m trying to start working on my rocket hog commendation but I’m a solo player. Afraid to let a random drive my rocket hogs. Trying to see how best to approach this.
I’m not a bad one of that helps?
Damn I need a driver.
Its a fine line to walk between giving your gunner enough time (TTK w/line of sight) to get a kill, and keeping yourselves out of direct fire/trouble. You gotta watch your gunners shield (and even more than that, know before its gonna pop) to get out in time for a recharge. I try to be a good driver, but I think I stick around a little too long sometimes, cuz I’m not that good of a gunner I need a bit more time on target than most.
I can be but i dont have alot of free time so i cant help sorry
I’m the best. Just keep it low and slow, and be ready to tell your gunner to switch seats when shields are low. Patrol specific areas instead of the whole map, but switch patrol zones every 45 seconds or so. Be careful around the area near where enemies can spawn vehicles.
And that concludes my driving tips!
I’m a great driver. That has always been my role in clans or groups of friends.
“Gabe! Get in the damn hog and drive!!”

This is actually great.
I do pretty well, with he rocket hog commendation in just did BTB on some of the levels the have the rockets as turrets and they count towards the commendation.
I’m a pretty good hog driver. I actually had a random guy send me a message about how he was honored to be my gunner…I got nearly 15 wheelman medals that round.
Enough about my “credentials,” and on to the qualities of a good hog driver.
- Don’t stop moving when you are anywhere near enemy lines…you and/or your gunner WILL get BR’d or jacked. Move or die.
- Keep and eye on shields (both yours and your gunners). If you see your or your gunners shield pop, get to safe spot and wait for them to recharge.
- This kind of ties-in with 2, but, know when to back out of a situation. I’ve kept many gunners/passengers alive by noticing when to “survive to fight another day.” For instance, if you see a scorpion tank rolling on the other side of the hill, get where he can’t blast you.
- Learn basic driving and maneuvering. I think the majority of hog deaths occur because the driver either runs into an immovable object, or bumps into something and flips the hog.
- Don’t be a greedy driver. Don’t try to rundown enemies if they see you coming…let your gunner do the gunning. The driver’s job is to keep moving and keep safe.
MORE ADVANCED:
6. Learn how to slide for the best effective turn-around. You don’t want to have t do a 3-point-turn every time you get to a dead-end.
7. Learn how to backup around corners or obstacles so your gunner is the first to see the enemy. The Warthog is a large target, if your enemy is shooting the front of the hog, and your gunner can’t get a shot on the enemy, you may need to go rear-first in so your gunner can get a good angle.
8. Communicate. This is actually one of the (if not THE) most important things. If you or your gunner can’t talk, use the hogs horn to alert your gunner if there’s an enemy in front of you.
9. Know when it’s time to jump ship. Live to drive another hog. don’t go down with the ship if your gunner is down and your hog is on fire. Jump out, get to a safe spot, REQ an new hog (if you want to).
That’s just my advice.

You were freaking awesome.
When you logged for the night, I started spawning rocket hogs in random games. Turned out terribly. People can’t drive at all.
I’m a good driver but i need a gunner that knows my driving
many people thinks it’s hard shooting while i drive
then there isen’t much stopping my hog
rocket hog commendation can take a while when u don’t have a good driver… but at least the rockets do a lot more damage now than in previous titles, which makes it kinda easy to kill with
I like to just drive in circles around an area. Usually the circle includes section of cover where I don’t have to worry about getting shot so I can recharge my shields along with my gunner’s. I have to be a good driver, because my brother sucks. We played Firefight in H3ODST once and he drove the Hog straight into a Brute Chopper.
I’m terrible xD I wish you could use rt and lt to accelerate and slow down. Would be more like actual car pedals.
Too many people think the hog is a license for free kills and drive into the middle of a mass of enemies and expect the gunner to clean up. Instead the gunner just gets 4 shot BR’d instantly and the driver has to book it out of the hornet’s nest.
The hog is best used to patrol flanks and catch single players out in the open alone. With the speed of the hog you can always choose favorable fights and quickly leave to somewhere safe when things get too dicey. Never push too deep and let your escape be cut off.

This. Too often the driver just goes in the middle of the action and does circles.
Drivers, pay attention to your gunner’s shield. Stay out of the action long enough for them too.
You can control the yaw and pitch of every vehicle in the air. Once you’ve mastered this, you’ll almost never flip again.

The difference between a good driver and a bad one is driving with the mentality of having to protect your gunner all the time. If your gunners shields are down, have him switch to passenger, and defend him with your warthog.
You also need to be aware of your surroundings, never getting ambushed or pitting yourself against more than 2 people, since your gunner can only shoot one gun at a time. Also know the fastest routes to flank, and to retreat. Know how to drift around corners ,(cus it’s fun as hell), and be willing to take some risks driving since you know how to control the warthog really well.
I love driving. That’s part of why my k/d is so horrible, because I drive most games. I’d definately be willing to drive for you,
