I’m pretty sure its not. Not saying its 5 when its 5 would just be silly.
They’re probably trying some very different things with gameplay, and having it be 5 would probably create more “this isn’t halo” than their changes in 4 did.

That… makes no sense.
Changes or not, if it is a sequel to Halo 4 it will be Halo 5. Maybe Microsoft is pushing them to make an interesting title, like Combat Evolved, to spice up the launch titles for the Xbox One.
It’s not H2A because it was confirmed not in development, and nothing in the trailer has anything to do with the plot of Halo 2.
It’s not a spin-off because Chief is wearing his new armor, which only appears in Halo 4 and thus this game will have to take place afterwards.
Also I believe a spokesman said after the fact that this game will be the “next in the saga” or something like that. I’ll have to find the exact quote somewhere.
I think Microsoft neglected to put “5” in the title because they assumed people would know that it’s Halo 5.
> They’re probably trying some very different things with gameplay, and having it be 5 would probably create more “this isn’t halo” than their changes in 4 did.
Could be a fall back plan when people say “this isn’t Halo” so people in support in the game can try to say “its a new sort of Halo” I guess.
> Only other possibility, really, is a spinoff set between 4 and 5.
This is what I was thinking.
> All other hints point towards Halo 5. Perhaps they’re working on a fancy title, like Halo: Combat Evolved had.

I agree. That makes no sense. It is Halo 5, it’s just called Halo. There is no other time in the Halo timeline when Chief is alone in the desert with Cortana’s chip as a dog tag in a freaking cloak. You can clearly tell that it’s set in the aftermath of Halo 4, meaning it’s Halo 5.
In a recent facebook post from Microsoft stating: “The Halo universe has expanded to include the Xbox E3 2013 Media Briefing. Watch the trailer for Halo 5, coming to Xbox One.” so yes, this was a trailer for Halo 5

Whoops never mind.
Looks like 343 is sticking to their word: Halo 5 is going to be dark.

I was speculating about weather or not this was indeed Halo 5, then I saw the post on their official facebook page and it was a little disappointing as i hoped it would be a side story sorta thing, but im stoked none the less its really sad once you think about it too… cant wait to see what the story is about!
343i has said before that they were committed to a 3yr cycle for numbered entries in the series. So unless that has changed and they slap a number 5 on the title of this thing, I think its a strong possibility that this could be a prelude to Halo 5.

You can’t have a spinoff that takes place between 4 and 5? Its not like halo 1-3 ha a seamless transition from one story to the next. Between 1-2 is First Strike, and between 2-3 is some comic book.

like in my recent post, Microsoft have confirmed that this Halo 5

Why would they star Chief in a spin-off between Halo 4 and Halo 5? That’s pretty much making Halo 5 without actually calling it Halo 5.

Didn’t read the earlier posts I just came right in and gave my thoughts. If this is indeed true its kind of disappointing in a way because I was kind of hoping it would be a prelude with H5 coming out in 2015. 343i spent 3 and a half years on H4 and while I thought it is a great game it has its problems and it was a little ruff at launch. I guess they are confident they’ve learned enough to make an improved game in 2yrs.
I just don’t want the numbered entries in this series to become a yearly occurrence. Smaller games in between are cool, but I liked the 3yr cycle for the main games.
See, there is so many things which make it look like halo 5. such as the big forerunner (which could mean its part of the “Reclaimer Trilogy”). Cortana’s chip in his hand. but what I don’t get is, why is he in the desert with his visor cracked??? Plus on this its called Halo xbox one. But xbox them selves called it halo 5??
