Or is it the way the story was told? Because if this game had a different lead writer (like the one from halo 4) than the game’s narrative could’ve been amazing. Now I’m not one of thoes people who HATE the campaing, but I do have a slight dissapointment that it is not as epic as the trailer (wich is the same feeling I have with halo 3 and that’s my least favorite)
I feel the same way. The story could have been good, but the execution just wasn’t very good.
I completely agree. The story itself, if you look at the main progression of events, is quite good. I think the route and perspective they chose to take was off.

The reason why I don’t hate the campaing is because I can see the story they were telling us.
I don’t get where Halo 4 comes into this…
I rather wait for halo 6 than play h5 campaign. It took me 3 months to understand the story of halo 4… Just keep it simple and make cheif blow another ring up.
It could have been a LOT better, but Evil Cortana Resurrection Instead of Chief Character Development 2.0 would have been terrible one way or the other.
The story itself isnt bad, but in some areas it just doesn’t work (like the Jul 'Mdama being assassinated). However, the narrative itself was just not well executed. In addition, unless you’ve read Halo Escalation, the parts with Halsey seem very out of place in compared to Halo 4 (Spartan Ops), where she was guarded 24/7 and then in Halo 5 she is basically free and it doesn’t seem to fit in. Also the overall narrative from Brian Reed just feels to be weak in certain areas such as the parts with Chief and his dialogue, which seems to be cold and distant even though the Chief isn’t just like that. It felt like he was trying to copy what Schlerf did in Halo 4 with the deep story between Cortana and Chief but it didn’t work out the same. Also the narrative in some parts seems to be unnecessary and not contribute to the plot such as the part where they get that forerunner thing (forgot the name) to activate the guardian. These could have been used to improve the characterisation of the newer characters and develop on them instead of wasting time with stuff like that. Just… the story isn’t bad but it needed to be executed in a better manner, and its sad because Halo 5 seemed like it was going to turn out really great but it just didn’t and thats what let a lot of people down (because of all the pre-release media such as Hunt the Truth, Nightfall, and Halo Escalation, although none of them actually really fit into the story).

The only problem is if they did that, people would just call 343i lazy because it’s the same story over and over. I miss the old straight-forward Halo though.
In my opinion, in Halo 4 they started splitting our attention among Cortana’s rampancy, the Didact/forerunner problem, and the Covenant remnant…and that didn’t go over well. Especially because if you didn’t get into the lore, it was just soooo much to take in. I think Halo 5 is 343i’s transition to getting Halo back down to the simple “these are the bad guys; these are the good guys.” It’s going to be interesting to see how they do Halo 6 considering all the events and things going on in the Halo universe.
The campaign lacks emotion
Yes I’m sure

This I never quite understood.
Chief jumps in to a guardian, it launches, and then buggs out.
All of a sudden, Roland has this code, Halsey knows where the next guardian is, Palmer’s talking about sending the guardian to the same place Chief went as though this one is going to go somewhere different.
As a player, as soon as Halsey says the next guardian is under Sunaion, I’m like “Right, lets go there, kill the covenant that are sitting on it, and wait until it launches”.
All this stuff about Roland’s signal and the Constructor sentinel just gets pulled out of nowhere and comes off as just an excuse for another mission to lengthen the campaign (even if i love the level design on it).
I think whoever wrote the trailers should’ve wrote the story. The story of the trailers was way more epic than what we got.

Did they say that to H2 and H3?
It’s the fact that Cortana is still alive. It is the story that’s the problem. It’s like they took everything great they built up in Halo 4 and just tossed away. There were som many ways they could continue the story, but instead they chose… this.
I can square away this thread question very quickly…both are terrible. Bad AI story line? Yawn. If I want a crappy storyline about the created taking over to protect us that will disappoint and/or bore me, I will go watch terminator movies or replay the sadness that was Mass Effect 3. However, I do believe that this horrible issue of a bad story arc becomes way more glaring with the way the story was told aka lack of awesome kick -Yoink- moments (no the Kraken destruction was not aweswome), dialogue during cutscenes that just didn’t resonate or seem to move towards a goal or point, and then the overall appearance that cut scenes were cut off too soon. The only cut scene that almost resembled the atmosphere of previous games was maybe the Cortana Chief scene towards the end which is also close to being a stretch.

Yea thats what I meant haha. Like the constructor part had no meaning to it really if they could just sit next to the guardian in a phantom and let it get pulled through slipspace with the guardian.

You summed up the entire video game industry, but I agree.

well they needed a reason to show off the pheaton. I mean so far every vehical in halo has been present in campaign, except maybe not the elephant from h3
