This is a well-beaten dead horse my friend, but I’ll weigh in.
CoD has always copied the successful mechanics and ideas of other games, that’s why it usually does so well. They can’t go wrong when they take things that work well and give them a fresh coat of paint.
Sure, CoD has gotten really bland over the years, but it still sells; so expect Energy Swords in a future game.
Typical CoD, they’re coping mechanics/designs of halo 5 so they can get bigger audience of their advertisement mostly notably 12 years olds who says “I -Yoinked!- your mom”.
You’ll never get me to switch over CoD, if the game was free.
Game developers gather inspiration from movies, television, books, and often other video games then blend it with their own ideas. It’s nothing new. That being said, there has to be at least some amount of originality involved and I feel that Call of Duty lacks originality entirely (just look at how their campaigns copy real life movies almost scene-by-scene).
EDIT:
As for “who is copying who” - both Halo and Call of Duty are guilty of borrowing concepts from one another. I think Infinity Ward has crossed a line this time, though.

Games copy each other all the time. Halo was an early pioneer in console FPS, so of course other games and devs are going to pull aspects from it. My problem with 343i is that they are sacrificing Halo’s originality for an attempt to pull CoD fans. That’s why you see things like kill streaks (Ordinance Drops), loadouts, default sprint, increases in automatic weapon power, exc. in 343i’s Halo.

But too much inspiration is a bad thing.
I think the COD franchise is about to experience what we went through with halo 4. Borrow, inspire, whatever. Games use similar elements all the time. But there is a certain point that a game appears to be trying to be something it’s not.
Halo 4 went too far. The new COD appears to have gone too far. I think the fans will lose interest. ( Considering the response so far, I’d say some of them already have). When a game moves too far away from what makes is great the fan base will not react well.
Halo 5 had iMO moved halo closer to what it is meant to be than where it was left after 4. I just think COD will have some repair to do after this instalment.

Thing is, Halo took CODs GAMEPLAY AND MECHANICS with Halo 4, but COD is only taking a bit of inspiration from Halos vehicles, and thats pretty much it.
But either way, COD will have to do a small bit of repair after this because its a futuristic game so eh.
Cod copies Halo and then halo gets called the clone coughthrusters,Infinite warcough
happened in ages past and it will so again
because Cod is more popular
i think people mean this too literally, halo copying cod has been around since the reach beta, it was a comment about how halo with more medal pop-ups, the use of sprint and trying to be more like the “modern shooter” genre made it more like the game that was the poster boy for that genre, cod.
they aren’t modern shooters anymore, CS:GO and overwatch are the kings atm, there is a shift away from the in your face, over-adrenalized, instant gratification, drop-in drop-out, everyone’s a winner game which puts more emphasis on skins, perks or visual features than gameplay.
halo, halo marketing and the direction 343 and MS wants to take halo is still quite firmly set with that modern shooter mentality, when really PC shooters have been top dog again since cod ghosts and when the modern shooter trend has taken a big loss.

I get what you are saying… but at the end of the day the only similarity Infinite Warfare will have with Halo is that it’s a FPS and it involves some sort of intergalactic struggle. The game will still play like a CoD, which is completely different than Halo to begin with… 3-lane map designs, customization load-outs (which I realize to your point was included in Halo 4, however this is not/should not be a Halo feature), lower TTK, scorestreaks… etc…
I would agree with your last statement that Halo 5 has moved closer to what Halo was meant to be. But I don’t agree with the statement 'COD will have some repairs to do after this installment." Why? Because I don’t think this game will hurt them. It looks like an awesome game truthfully, and CoD does about a good a job as anyone when it comes to sticking to the formula, which is why they have dominated the FPS market for almost a decade.
I do think they will get back to developing a historical shooter relatively soon though, as that is what they do best.
the most important difference between the two games is still there. the COD TTK is insanely low, while the Halo TTK is still relatively high. Reversal medals are relatively common in Halo, and extremely surprising in COD
Let’s just say that CoD copied Halo first following Halo 2 (2004) which introduced regenerating health, followed by CoD 2 (2005) which did the same; ditch health packs for regenerating health.
Now, no games (or anything really) are entirely original, but CoD has always been one of the worst offenders when it comes to incorporating popular new mechanics.
I’d thought I’ll never see the day Halo and Call of Duty becoming friends; next you know 343i is gonna ask Treyarch if they can borrow their stuff and vice versa.
Good thing I’m not buying it, and also, the wall running animation, slide, thrusters, black market & Specialist abilities looks like they copied Black ops 3
Well they did cause I watched a Multiplayer gameplay.
