Are we getting Social Slayer, or not?

From this article I gather we will be getting social BTB, although I can’t imagine how that could differ in terms of gameplay from ranked BTB, which is a bit of a mess IMO. However, the articles goes on to say, “We know you also want a mix of non-BTB social modes, and we’ll have a mix of currently available modes in a social playlist too - more on that next week.” Thus, I presume we will be getting some oldschool social gametypes, (e.g. infection, oddball, etc.) in a single mixed playlist, but are we getting a dedicated Social Slayer option?

Can anyone provide further detail on this matter?

Confirmed pretty much. Slayer is the most basic gamemode, it would be weird to not have it social.

I still don’t understand the difference between “Social Slayer” and “Ranked Slayer”.

Aren’t the same match-making principles employed to select your team and opponents? Isn’t the aim still to play for/against opponents of similar skill?

I get the concept of a “Social Playlist”… lots of different game modes on rotation… but when you rotate into a game of slayer you are pretty much rotating into the same pool of players.

Or am I missing something?

I hate grab bag style playlists.

For example, when I play team arena, i’m ok with Slayer, CTF, and Stronghold, but I -Yoinking!- hate when I have to play a round of that lame we-gotta-boost-in-on-man-cannons-for-some-reason game mode. (Breakout)

So I’m always hesitant about playing team arena. I don’t want to have to play game modes that I don’t enjoy.

I guess what I’m really saying is, remove breakout from team arena, and leave it in its own playlist.

You can let your terrible friend play on your account without having to worry about them messing with your rank or stats. And since other plays will do the same thing, you don’t have to worry about weak teammates bringing your stats down when you’re playing social to warm-up for ranked.

This also helps solve the issue of throw-away ranked playlists (where players use one ranked play list to warm-up for another ranked playlist), which lowers the competitive integrity of that playlist for the people who do take it seriously.

So funny you say that, because that is exactly what I do with SWAT -> FFA. It’s the best workaround until a social playlist appears.
