I had a question, there are spoilers ahead and this was confirmed by Bungie!
So Jun from Halo Reach is alive, I had some theories that I had heard from somewhere that were really interesting.
So what if Jun gave Sarah Palmer his helmet or influenced her with the scout armour?
What if Jun is still alive now and Sarah Palmer is a relative of Jun?
I don’t know, if anyone could give me some answers about what is going on about him or had an other theory about him please tell me.
Thank you!
I can answer all your questions but it involves a lot of spoilers for the comic “Halo: Initiation”.
Though I’ll tell you right now that your rumors are steering you in the general direction of the truth. Sorta.
To start off we don’t know how Jun escaped Reach but it was discovered that he somehow managed it.
He later found himself working under a failed SII named Musa as a recruiter in the SIV program and it was him who found Palmer and gave her the opportunity to become one of the earliest SIVs. This was in 2553, a yeah after Halo 3.
We don’t know if he still participates in missions or what his armor looks like these days but he wears a sweet suit.
We haven’t seen him since Initiation but there’s nothing to suggest that he died during the time between Palmer’s recruitment and post Halo 4 so he could make an appearance at any point in the future.
There’s nothing to suggest that Jun and Palmer are related and Sarah’s armor is Gen 2 Scout armor while Jun’s is Gen 1 Mk V Scout armor so I don’t think there’s any big connections in their armor other than the fact they’re both Scout.
What happened to Jun’s Mark V armor is unknown but it certainly didn’t wind up in Palmer’s hands. She wears the GEN2 Scout armor because she picked it more-or-less arbitrarily from a limited selection (Scout, Soldier, Recon, and Recruit) during an Insurrectionist raid on Infinity. She may have seen mission logs showing Jun in his prototype Scout armor and subconsciously made her decision based on that. However, if that’s the case the comic says nothing about it.
Catalog has confirmed that Jun is still active (though presumably not in combat) as of March 2558, just over five years after Initiation:
"Query: What is the current status of Jun-A266?
Query Answer: [frumentarii] records indicate queried individual maintains a [command and control] role in Human [exploratii] security forces."
[https://twitter.com/Mr_Admirals/status/429062324737953792 Earth alone still has a population in the billions following the Covenant War], not to mention the survivors on various colonies. The odds are stacked very much against Jun and Palmer being related within several generations, let alone being close enough to identify as kin. Initiation is already written like a superhero comic but that would be stretching things way too far.
I don’t believe we will, I don’t think 343 would want to bring unnecessary characters back, as cool as that would be. And I think Frank O’Connor said they wouldn’t bring him back, but never say nothing!
