343 made a social playlist at launch, warzone which is fun but only when with a team.
So why can they not make social playlists for arena?
I can’t match in BTB because of my rank being too high (even though its only diamond) and whenever I do find a game it is against tryhards, whereas when my friend who is bronze plays he never meets anybody good. Hmmm.
Snipers came out today, and before I quit my build it said “10 matches to qualify”. Only after I reset my game it said it was social. Hmm. Played 2 matches and I was getting noscoped across the map and it just felt like I was playing ranked slayer.
I fear that grifball, infection etc will be unplayable because 343 haven’t taken away the hidden ranks from these “social” arena playlists. 90% of the time in warzone I meet people below my skill level, which is what a social playlist should feel like for an Onyx player. A chillout playlist. Whereas arena social playlists are just as tryhard as ranked.

You realise that hidden kind of means “cannot be seen”. There is hidden rankings in all playlists i believe, both arena and warzone, but the warzone one is really meaningless, while the arena ones mean some people can’t find matches. There have been quite a few posts over the last week or so about it, and many people are having a problem with it.

On several occasions I said that it would be the same as ranked because try hards are try hards and they will always be where ever they want to be. Tryhards might the dumbest term this community has invented. How is trying to win a negative thing? Are these forums filled with trophy babies or something? How does it ruin your game when someone tries to win (which is the object of any game)? If you’re not trying to win you shouldn’t be playing.
Do you want to know why we don’t have many social playlists? Do you want to know why the only original playlists on the game were ranked? Wanna know why the lobbies are treated very “cut off” from the list of players before a match (besides your fireteam)Wanna know why the game came out with 0 social gametypes? Its actually not because it was “cut from launch.” Its because of one thing: 343 did not want Halo 5: Guardians to be a social game. We saw this from the beginning, when they advertised their multiplayer beta. It was all about competition. They want people to play their game “the right way.” 343 assumed every single person who would purchase a copy of their game would try to become mlg and practice with teammates in breakout and what not.
It took the entire community to speak up and knock some sense into 343’s heads that ranked has a social counterpart that is crucial to a fun Halo experience. So, are we ever going to get a social playlist? I hope so, but 343 seems pretty reluctant to do so.
Now, I am in no way saying ranked is bad, I am saying ranked or social ALONE is bad. The two need to go hand in hand

If I find a game by myself which takes a long time, the people I match with are at the same skill level as me sometimes a bit a higher and sometimes a bit lower.
If I play with my friend who was gold in ranked BTB, suddenly the matches become very easy and I can go on really high kill sprees.
If I play with my other friends who were all champions in ranked BTB, I literally can’t do crap. I’m not a champion player I know I never will be so these matches really annoy me.

I am a tryhard. I like competitive matches, but not all the time. It’s why I love warzone. 90% of the time we wreck bad kids, but that other 10% we have challenging fun matches and sometimes we get wrecked in those. But in arena, it feels like every other match you get wrecked and if you don’t put 100% effort in you will lose. In a social playlist you can win sometimes without trying, which is how it should be.

Warzone is completely social. By definition that literally means anyone can match anyone. I have matched against bronzes and full champion teams (the latter being very rare but I got my -Yoink- handed to me).

It has hidden ranks. Its still using truskill matchmaking but it hides your rank so they can say “look guyz a social playlist!” You can’t handle the truth.

Ok. I assumed it was ranked because you were given a rating based off of performance still (bronze, champion, etc). Even then, the incentive to play your best to keep your rating high doesn’t do much for a social feel.
In general, I think social playlists need the following:
No rank whatsoever
Can match with anyone (less preferences obviously)
Has a prematch social lobby that looks like a Custom Games lobby.
In doing so, the player doesn’t feel so distanced from the rest of the people in the lobby and brings them closer, allowing you to see armor, files, and more before the match starts. This ultimately allows the playlists to actually feel social.

Warzone is DEFINATELY social. I go in with party of 12 and we get 12 randoms…
