Here we see the Knight and the Crawler. Notice the orange highlighting. Also take note on their armor plating design.
My question now - why are these two different? i’m not only referencing the blue color, but also the spikes on the back of the Crawler. The way it seems to be standing on all fours rather than slithering around like the other variant.
Also the helmet on the “Knight” is designed a little bit differently. It looks like it doesn’t open at all.
I noticed this as well. My theories are that they are either different due to being on a different part of the planet, and therefore suited for different environments, or they are simply just representing different ranks of the same unit.
Take a look at Elites, for example. Elite Minors and Majors have different armours and colours, it’s quite possible that Forerunner enemies are distinguished in similar ways.

I don’t think the blue ones are enemies, do those ones look evil at all?

It does not look like they are attacking us, looks like they are having a massive battle with something off screen and that one Knight may be looking at Chief.

They look as mean the red ones do, but just in a different way.
are they? i only see one attacking something that can’t be seen (also: no HUD), while plasma weapons are fired at it and his friends.
also the design looks friendly. first of the colour blue, but especially the eyes. no menacing slits like the orange bad guys, but more “friendly” dots/circles.
but my main reason to believe that there’s friendly forerunners too is that:
forerunners =/= ancient evil. (i know i might live in denial, but it doesn’t fit the way they’ve been presented so far and after all this secrecy until now i’m pretty certain that 343i is holding info back and we’ll have a plot-twist in game.)

They look pretty threatening to me with sword coming down. I think they just represent harder enemies or another faction.
To go along with they aren’t our enemies. Blue reminds me of Cortana. Could she have hacked the other AI’s?

well, sure they look threatening - they are war machines. but from a video-gamey design point of view i think they look like allies. especially the eyes: orange glowing slits for the villains - round eyes for friendlies, IMHO that’s comic book friend-or-foe 101.
and i do not think that the friendly blue ones are those that got hacked. i rather believe that the orange ones are under the influence of the ancient evil, which is not forerunner by nature.
of course, all speculation.
EDIT - do i need to become a Monitor in order to get rukizzel’s avatar?

I think they did that from perspective, perhaps the blue ones are on a mission to retrieve Chief and are fighting covenant and Chief does not realize that the blue ones are allies and shoots at them forcing the blue ones to possibly knock him out. For all we know that blue one with the sword thing may be coming down on a possibly cloaked orange one.
The blue one also doesn’t have the same gap on his face, where the orange one opened his face. The crawler also looks more mature. Could either be rank or the effects of rampancy on the part of the orange ones.
