Are there too many armor permutations?

I never thought I’d say this, but I would rather quality armor sets over quantity. There are some badass looking armor sets for sure, but I’m positive most will agree that some of the armor looks out of place and only present for the sake of having a higher armor set count.

I was very excited about the huge amount of armor permutations in Halo 5 upon hearing there were more than 170 armor types. Now that I have about 70 of both armor and helmets, I find myself missing the distinguishable 9 in Halo 3. While I definitely think 9 armor permutations is definitely not enough for a 2015 Halo game, I just wish there were maybe 50 or so and that they were designed REALLY well. Throw out the junk armor that is meant to clog up the REQ system.

Also someone on the forums mentioned that part of the reason progression unlocks are not a thing is because there are so many permutations. I think thats a BS excuse, but I definitely would rather have at least SOME progression or reward unlocks and less actual permutations.

The quantity isn’t what I have a problem with.

It’s the overall quality and the method of unlocking them that sucks. Roll the dice a hundred times to get that epic dented-trashcan helmet.

I agree there are just way to many variants, they hold almost no significance. In halo 3 you actually looked at someones armor and had an opinion on it whether it be negative or positive. Now you just look and think; meh.(at least i do) You have the right idea i think if we had less armor and had to actually do something to unlock them it would feel so much better wearing a cool armor you worked your -Yoink- off for.

Too many reskins

I would have actually preferred, instead of simple reskins, to be able to throw your own choice of pattern onto the armor, if desired.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having as many as they were willing to design. The method of acquisition is a valid criticism though. I personally don’t mind the booster method, but there is certainly a rewarding feeling that comes with working to unlock a specific piece or set that can’t be denied.

There are definitely a few sets I could have done without. My complaint is that there doesn’t really need to be multiple styles of the same armor (recruit, athlon, mk iv), the only difference being one looks dirty or a little more fancy.

Definitely should have been like reach, one armor style, click it and bring up its sub-types. Like in reach where you click a helmet and get different accessories, we’d have about 100 armor pieces if they did that.

The helmet cost a crapton, while the accessories were somewhat cheap (Compared to the helmet). I would love for that to return, let’s you fine tune your armor.
