BTB is broken at the moment. Started happening when they introduced the additional slayer playlists. They couldn’t figure out what’s causing it before the holidays (see the post pinned above this forum) and said they’d resume working on the issue when they were back from the brake (likely next week).
So if you see this behavior almost exclusively happen in BTB, then it’s nothing to do with the connection.
Aside from BTB being broken I’m playing almost all the time at 34 - 40 ms ping from Austria (I assume the 34ms ping is Azure West (Amsterdam) and 40ms is Azure North (Dublin).

BTB is terrible for me. As for other gametypes I can play but as soon as the match is over I lose connection from servers?
It’s a netcode issue with the entire game. Similar to rubber banding that BF4 had. I get shot around corners all the time

You can disable american servers or any server really, just search on google " Halo Infinite how to select server"
On the other game types it’s admittedly odd. I get the occasional (read: every few days) connection issues when joining on other Playlists but I’ve never encountered any issue when getting off a game.
BTB is unfortunately terrible for everyone.

When a match ends, I start the search again. The loading bar starts with the usual title saying “connecting to servers”
but in the top right corner it says “matchmaking cancelled”
Then as always I get disconnected from the
“Dedicated servers”
So at the moment the only way I can play is to dashboard quit and restart the game and if its really bad I have to restart my console.
Gawd I miss the Halo 3 days with local play.
This is another problem in itself. You shouldn’t even be able to do this and it’s ruining the game for players on console which is where the main fanbase of halo is to begin with. (including myself) I honestly think doing this manipulation of the game files to block out certain location servers makes other players who haven’t done this match in higher ping games. This further adds to my opinion of ranked being horribly broken cuz of forced crossplay.
Remove forced crossplay and watch the PC players have long search times cuz of their file manipulation. In fact, bring back the advantage of halo being on console in the first place. I’m not sure why Microsoft didn’t just design the game to increase sales of Xbox in the first place.

They are not manipulating game files - it’s on the OS level. And people are doing it on consoles too - instead of changing settings in a file they do it in the DNS settings on their router.
The underlying problem of the high ping matches is the balance of wait times against low ping games. 343i seem to allow for quite little time in Matchmaking before matching people from different regions. Once they match people from different regions someone will experience high ping in that game.
I don’t think crossplay is making much of an impact in that regard (there are of course other issues with it but this isn’t one of them).

I can’t even …
you’re funny, you want the Xbox to have an advantage over pc lol, listen, pc players are here playing the game now and they should have the same “rights” as Xbox players.
They are a large part of the population, maybe as many as Xbox players, we play on the master chief collection as well, and we aren’t going to stop playing it anytime soon even if you don’t like it.
We have a Windows pc, we pay Microsoft to buy every windows version, we pay for the campaign, for game pass, we expect to have at least the same experience as people playing on Xbox or even better. Just because you decided to spend 300 or 500 bucks on an Xbox doesn’t mean that you are superior to pc players.
And about blocking servers, people do this because they don’t want to have a high ping, simple as that. Playing on a high ping sucks. People on console can do it too, but they have to buy a router with Geo-Filtering which costs hundreds of dollars.
Tell me, should we ban people on Xbox for using a Geo-Filtering router as well?
Taking out forced crossplay is bad for the population. You say that pc players will complain about low population, but I can bet 1000$ that xbox players will start complaining too about long search times.
What about xbox players outside the US? If you take out force crossplay, many xbox players outside the US won’t be able to find matches in less than 5 minutes in many playlists.
This is why Microsoft decided to “force” crossplay in basically every Xbox game studios title…
Thank you for explaining the truth in a simple way. Many console players don’t understand this.
I can confirm that there are Halo Infinite servers in Dublin and Amsterdam. I use Geo Filter to force connection on to either and avoid connection to US servers. Depending on the time of day (ie late at night) and playlist (usually FFA or BTB), if I disable Geo Filter then the game will place me on Chicago servers with over 150ms compared to my 20ms when connected to Dublin or Amsterdam.

Are there Japanese servers? I’m constantly getting stuck in American servers, but occasionally get a good low ping match. Even had like 30ms once I believe.
I don’t imagine Asia is very popular for Halo though, so I might just have to deal with the latency.

There are japanese server, but given the low population in east asia, you’ll have to block american servers in order to consistently get low ping…
There are Halo Infinite servers in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore. Where are you based?

Obviously I can’t test ping from your location but I can ping any Halo Infinite server from my location in the UK. I would also say that if Halo Infinite servers are being managed like they were in Halo5 or how they do in COD, then some servers may go offline or migrate players to different servers depending on time of day and playlist due to player population.

Do you think 343 would be able to have infinite like the MCC with the settings to filter out servers. Think it took a few years for the MCC to have this feature
I’m also playing from Japan. I feel your pain.
American servers I can at least play on though. It’s the European servers I dread.

It’s crazy hearing everyone say how the servers affect everyone. I’m the opposite I live right next to one in the EU and I rarely get placed in the EU servers
Yeah they needed 6 years to implement server selection in Mcc. They would be able to do this in infinite as well but i don’t think it’s coming soon unfortunately… blocking servers manually is the only way to play fair games at this time

I’m in Iwakuni, so Tokyo is probably my best best.
