I am just very curious if there has been any confirmation about this subject. Seems kinda important to the story.
I don’t think it was confirmed as far as I know. But it does seem very likely.
It’s precursors, and I only say that because of how much time went by when the chief and Newtana were in the silent auditorium
Based on every dialogue shown in the Campaign, I would say: No, they are not.
However, there is one very small detail:
The TACMAP synopsis of the last mission says “her species, the Endless” (Talking about the Harbinger).
That’s the only line in the game which mentions both species at the same time. So, unless the synopsis wasn’t written by a sloppy intern, I guess it’s canon.

Tl;dr yes, them, Skimmers, and other aquatic robotic primates are Endless, because their DNA prevents them from being killed by the Rings
I don’t think so. What should be their motivation? Why are they a threat to the galaxy?
Precursors created life and willingly chose to pass the Mantle to another species - later they deemed Humans as worthy.
I believe The Endless are not based on any lore we have so far. They are something completely new. Perhaps they lived in the Galaxy even before Precursors arrived, or were some sort of enemy to them. Or perhaps they were even what the Precursors were to the Foreunners.
The link I posted tells the lore. They survived the Ring blast and were deemed a threat if the Flood infected them, since the Flood would inherit DNA immune to the Ring. The Endless want revenge for being locked up against their will.
Revenge against whom?
Foreunners? Already dead.
Humans and any other species? Had nothing to do with this crime…
Why would Cortana consider them a threat, as well? And why did she want to free them?
And why didn’t Harbinger just explain her story to Chief, so Chief could say “Sheeesh, that really was a di#k move by the Foreunners. But the Flood and the Foreunner are gone now. Sure we can help you and free your people.”?
Also:
It would be quite a big coincidence if the Flood also didn’t know about the Endless. They assimilated the knowledge of the whole galaxy. This means, there was no other species ever in contact with Xalanyn?
I guess it’s more likely the Endless were also immune against the Flood. Perhaps this would mean there even was another way of defeating the Flood without killing the entire galaxy. Or perhaps something completely different.
Who knows? The lore of this series has become so over convoluted that I can’t even keep up. Just miss the days when the only “Ancient evil” was the flood and the forunners weren’t weird puppy dogs, but rather human ancestors. I just wanna save the world to rock and roll.
Had a thought. What if the endless are what became of the Xalanyn after the Forerunners did extensive testing on them with flood infection being the main concern. If that were the case then the endless would be flood essentially, with the intelligence of the Xalanyn species.
Hmm, I doubt it. Those artifacts you can find suggest that the Endless are older than the Forerunners.
The harbinger knows that chief is a reclaimer. She was also unaware of weapon for a part of the game. One of the first things that she says is that “Plans change”. If she was devolved by forerunners (Claims forerunners changed her in final battle), it would basically be her trying undo the precursors original plans of them choosing humanity as reclaimers. Forerunner had the technology to turn us back into primitive humans so it wouldn’t be crazy to think that they could have sent us back farther than the missing link if they truly hated us. What’s to say that the forerunners didn’t do the same or worse to the harbinger, endless, precursors…She says that her and chief are not enemies but sides with the brutes. She also says you are not the future. However, from what she also says, she doesn’t have the means to change the past but rather wants revenge. By freeing the endless who could re-evolve back into the precursors she could erase forerunners legacy. Remember that only reclaimers can activate certain precursor and forerunner tools and structures. On her helmet is a reclaimer sign. She was able to activate doors, elevators and other structures. She disliked the monitor because pyre doesn’t understand that forerunners stole technology from the precursors because they were not chosen as reclaimers. The reason she might also be mad is that precursors made the Domain, not forerunners. the forerunners used the domain and unknown to them the halo array would destroy it with them inside it as digital constructs.
She may in fact be angry about the theft of her races work, the sin of firing the array and Humanity not evolving to the point that the brutes were not a threat. It be like designing house to live in, someone coming along, locking you in it then proceeded to take credit for your work while destroying your property. Oh and some how they turn you and your siblings into children. So imagine finally getting out and the monitor is going on about how forerunner this and that and the harbinger is basically at the point where she is pulling a Clint Eastwood mode of “GET OFF MY LAWN”…
I think that could be reason enough their connected.
The Xalanyn and the Endless are a Trillion Brute Army clones of Tartarus, Bassus, Escharum and Atriox.
