Haven’t been on LIVE in a few days and I’m already downloading the Metal Gear and Dead Space 3 demos and about to try out the forge maps. So is it worth the time to download them or is it just more of the same?
More of the same with minor improvements.
more of the same. Spartan ops is eating up my hdd so if i don’t see any improvements by ep 10 then i’m deleting spartan ops from my harddrive. also 343 did a nice job subtly reusing campaign areas…
I assume you are referring to Episode 6 of Spartan Ops. If so, then yes they are marginally better than the 1st half of Season One. Larger/more open environments and more relevant locations. You will be disappointed, however, if you go in with the expectation that they’ve addressed every problem that existed in the 1st five episodes. It’s still pretty much routine tasks during each mission: reach checkpoint, access a panel/open a door, eliminate a certain number of enemies, proceed, repeat.
New locations are nice. Hopefully these locations won’t be recycled like before.
If you enjoy playing Spartan Ops, the yes. Why would you not want to continue the story if you enjoy it?
If you don’t care for it, then the answer is no.
No.
Spartan Ops is still just a boring grenade fest with no challenge, you can infinitely respawn so they’ll drop a ridiculous amount of enemies just so it’ll take you a bit longer since there is no challenge at all. This is the main problem because they’re too many enemies with no challenge I feel numbed at the end of each mission. The CGI cut scenes invest me in the story but then I get so bored whilst playing the missions I lose all interest. Also the character of Palmer might be a little more bearable if she actually did something! Seriously she’s stepped off of the Infinity like once and has still not even put on a helmet (hopefully that Jackal with the great aim from REACH is still around).
To be honest if they want a campaign style mini story then they should structure it like one and this wouldn’t require massive tweaks either just have the same respawn system as co-op campaign tone the amount of enemies down and have some character development within the episodes and not solely in the CGI bits.

this made my day sir and i cannot agree more.
spops is very “meh” for me. it might be fun if it was lag free but after doing the first 5 episodes…it seems like if you have played one you have played them all. i only care about the cutscenes.

It’s not even subtle. Me and a friend recognized the campaign level as soon as our Spartans dropped. Ooh, it’s at nighttime. Big freaking deal.
No, it’s a lagfest.
Boring story line.
Repetitive objectives.
Uninteresting characters.
Nothing new.
I liked it. Something about it felt more hectic and fun. Maybe because it’s set on legendary difficulty through matchmaking.
Either way, I enjoy Spartan Ops.
Mild Spoilers.
First mission is in a new area, but people will glitch you outside the map over and over. Ignoring the jerks who ruin it, it’s pretty fun and refreshing.
Second mission is a significant improvement. It’s in a series of large caverns that actually let you roam around and fight from different angles, it’s a lot less linear.
Third Mission is a recycled campaign level that basically has you fend off waves while doing a tiny bit of button pushing.
Fourth mission is a reskinned Version of Vortex where you just move around the map in a counterclockwise manner, blowing up plasma stockpiles and doing a little button pushing.
Fifth mission is just a linear kill everything, invade harvester, kill inhabitants, go back to evac point
Bear in mind, this is only the first episode. There’s still four more to go. It’s a decent improvement, but nothing that really exceeds any expectations.

this is why I have never and will never play a single match of spartan ops =)
