This Could Be The First Halo 6 Trailer - YouTube If you have seen LukeTheNotable’s video on the real reason behind halo 5’s ads, he suspects they’re actually for halo 6. I haven’t seen anyone at 343 say “yeah that’s for halo 6 dudes” yet but not say it isn’t yet. Lemme know what you think of it all. I say it makes pretty great sense.
A lot of times concept art or other things developed for one game get cut but eventually work their way into a sequel.
I suspect that the “Hunt the Truth” advertisements were for what Halo was going to be before the re-writes, but that given the response, it may be made to tie into a later game (possibly even Halo 6). I doubt 343 Industries would make any announcement about this until all of the work was completed.
All that really mean was that it was false advertising for Halo 5. It doesn’t really help 343 for them to admit that. I doubt there any validity to it.
Yeah I have also seen the “cracked visor” theory, where master chief has a cracked visor in the trailers. While it doesn’t get cracked until the middle of Halo 5, the trailer could have just been misleading info for the end of the campaign. I do hope it is for Halo 6, as that would be one of the best video game stories of all time.

look down at the cracked visor theory. It partly matches the theory of the false advertising
No they are not. 343 marketed them for Halo 5.
I absolutely don’t believe they were intended that way. That would be ridiculous. Unless you intentionally put on your conspiracy theory hat and try to see it that way, the more reasonable answer is that Halo 5 had an internal emergency re-write for some unknown reason, much like the one Halo 2 had, and they failed to clean up the mess well (unlike Bungie with Halo 2). The old Halo E3 trailer with MC weirdly in a cloak, the concept art for Halo 5 (much of which you can see in your achievements), the amazing Hunt the Truth campaign, and all the trailers pointed to the same story which was directly tied to Halo 5. The lousy campaign we were left with is clearly the result of an initially unplanned change in direction.
However, I would love for it all to be repurposed that way now, after the matter. The Hunt the Truth series was fanatastic as were the ads. The story Halo 5 was supposed to be about sounded extremely cool and exciting. I’d love to hunt down Master Chief to assassinate him due to his apparent attack on human diplomats and apparent unleashing of the Guardians, switching back and forth in a 50/50 storyline like with the Arbiter in Halo 2, assuming they did it well and made Locke likable. But I really, really don’t think it will happen. For one, they’ve seemingly abandoned it because the Hunt the Truth audio series events were never brought up in H5, Master Chief was never seen as a traitor, there was never a kill order given, everyone already knows Cortana is behind the Guardians and that Master Chief did not help her, and most importantly of all 343 already said that Halo 6 will be solely about Master Chief and will have no other playable characters. I think the original story of Halo 5 that got scrapped is a dead and gone, missed opportunity, much like the awesome Spartan Ops story setup that they did away with.
I just hope now they can clean up this mess with some good new ideas with a new writer and shift focus onto the Banished and the Flood.
I just call it Bad marketing

wow 343 is -Yoinking!- gay
sorry for calling you gay, 343! you guys are actually prett cool
From the video, my impression was that he was trying to make some kind of logical sense of the trailers when it was most likely just a developmental mess on 343’s part. Some of the cut scenes and trailers were probably made before story rewrites and they just decided to stick with them instead of making new ones.
The first trailer was specifically for ‘halo on xbox one’ it wasn’t meant to be a halo 5 trailer. The rest still make some degree of sense for h5, and making them for h6 would just mean h6 is going to retread h5’s plot with more angst between the protags? no thanks at this point.
Even if that was Brian Reed’s master plan, 343 has said they’ll focus on chief more in the next game, so it’s likely been canned.
Yes,they are for Halo5.
Nope, only for H5
The trailers were definitely for Halo 5. There is no good marketing reason why it would be for 6, when they would have no idea how long it would take 6 to come out (case in point, Halo 6 probably won’t be out for a few more years due to no new announcements.) Now, if anything from the trailers ends up in Halo 6, that’s just because they decided to use cut content in the game, like the first responder to you said.
For example, there are a few scenes from the end of the first Soul Reaver that are shown to Raziel, which are not in that game. Originally they were supposed to be, because the game was to be MUCH longer but it got cut due to time constraints. As such, they took those scenes and added them to Soul Reaver 2 and Legacy of Kain Defiance respectively. If this ends up in Halo 6, its just something they brought from 5, but was not originally intended for it.

Yeah. There’s already enough of that with Microsoft bending their arm into saying their HCS event’s are “LAN Events”. I highly doubt do something like show off a Halo 5 trailer when its really meant for Halo 6

well if it got cut and they’re going to finish the guardians story in Halo 6 and possibly 7 they could qualify as trailers for six though, right?

No, because they are clearly advertised for Halo 5.

From a certain point of view, maybe yes. But that isn’t the intent. The trailers are for 5, they just make no sense now for the game they are advertising. It’ll just be a coincidence that the events happen in Halo 6.
The bigger question will be: if they go that route, how will they advertise Halo 6 without copying the Halo 5 trailers.

but if they were advertised for halo 5 and that stuff got cut, then they technically are for 6 which is the other half of halo 5’s story.
