Probably just maintenance like on reach. They would announce when they finally shut the server down for good just like they halo 2

So the Reach servers are down? Lol, I almost had a heart attack when my game wasn’t connecting.

The Halo 3 servers won’t be shut down at least until the Xbox 720 is out, the reason for this because Halo 3 doesn’t actually have it’s own servers, they run off the Microsoft 360 Live servers like every other game, so if they wanted to shut the H3 servers down they would have to shut down every other game’s servers down also. When the Halo 2 servers went down, it wasn’t just for H2, it was for every other Xbox Original game, but by 2010 Halo 2 was the only Xbox Original game still be played, that’s why you only heard Halo 2 players complain.

It is completely possible to take Halo 3 offline without having to take down the entire Xbox LIVE service.

All Halo servers are down for maintenance. Reach, too. Here’s the link to the official announcement post in the general matchmaking section: https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postsm1611543_Halo--Reach-Scheduled-Maintenance-10-31.aspx#post1611543

I feel like Reach should be shut down before H3 should.

Nothing is getting shut down!

Proof?

Ok, we get it. Some people don’t like Reach and are babies about it. Boo Hoo. When my friend, a long time Halo fan, stopped liking Halo after Reach came out, he stopped playing, moved on, and started playing something else. He didn’t start a year long hissy fit over it. When 4 comes out, he will take a look, and decide if he likes it or not. And thus decide if he’s going to play it or not. He doesn’t keep playing a game he doesn’t like, and piss and moan the entire time. Can you please stop -Yoinking!-.
Sorry,(I’ve been trying to stop being a complainer myself) but I lost my temper, and I just had to get it off my chest. Don’t worry I won’t start a whole thread over this.

The Halo 3 servers still run and stats are still updated, but Bungie doesn’t update stats and 343 doesn’t show them. If you want Halo 3 stats to be shown updated on Waypoint, I have a petition in the Halo 3 forums. But Halo 3 servers still work.

Edit: The Halo 3 servers are back online so that means they finished with the maintenance. The Reach servers are also back online.

See how they are down right now?

They can make that happen for as long as they want.

Yeah, but that’s just for maintenance right?

I don’t believe they can shut them down permanently on their own, when H2 was shut down it was Microsoft decision to shut down all Xbox Original games, not just Halo 2.

Has anyone got any word on when they’ll be back up?

Exactly, they can take it off permanently as easily as they can for maintenance.

It will be back up when the maintenance is complete.

EA has shut down several Xbox 360 servers (I believe any sports game older then 2010)and live is still running for other games. It is completely possible

They should also Update the Playlists and such. Specially for those people who are still playing because they want to get the Achievements.

If everyone thinks about it logically, Halo servers were down for maintenance, without all of Xbox live being down. Therefore, it is possible to turn off Halo servers without all of Xbox live. Logic
Secondly, EA shut down many of their old game servers. Don’t believe me? Go try to play the original most wanted for xb360 online, tell me how that turns out.
BUT, Microsoft will not pull the plug on Halo’s servers until they pull the plug on Xbox 360’s Xbox Live.
Proof? Halo 2 stayed online until April 15, 2010, when all of original xbox live shut down.

Halo 3 will most likely never die out. It’s the most prolific of the Halo original trilogy.
