I beat spartan assault all the way through and I am playing through spartan strike now purley for the story and from what I have seen there is just so much pointless wierd stuff that doesn’t make any sense at all that I wish it wasn’t canon…anyone know if it is or not?
Both games are CANON
Unless they say something ISN’T canon, everything released IS canon.

This.
However, keep in mind OP that both games are just simulation scenarios BASED on canon events. They are edited and mixed for various reasons and we have no access to any detailed accounts of the events the simulations depict (other than Palmer calling bullcrap on the Spartan Assault ending and giving you access to the real ending).
I believe Spartan Strike is just a War Games simulation that recreates the Battle of Earth for training Spartan-IV’s. So technically it is canon but at the same time it isn’t because it didn’t really happen; except it did happen in the simulation. It’s really confusing.
Same thing for Spartan Assault, it’s not a War Games simulation but it’s like a recording. Almost like showing a documentary of actual events to a class of Spartans in training.

Spartan Strike is as canon as Spartan Assault; the first and half of fifth operations re-tell events that took place DURING the Battle of Mombasa, taking place at the same time as the events of Halo 2. What we saw in Halo 2 and Halo 3: ODST were two POV of that battle. Spartan Strike is another POV of that event, simulating two ODST teams: the first send to recover the Conduit and another for a Covenant data dap.
Yes they are canon to the lore just like how Noble team and SIIIs are canon and existed during the fall of reach (Bungie’s biggest mistake)

Biggest mistake?
Explain.

Nope he’s probably operating under the assumption that its completely ridiculous half the planet didn’t know about a Covenant invasion for almost a month, because its still stupid.

It did look like the entire fleet arrived at one side of the planet first, besides when the covies attacked Visegrad relay it would’ve knocked comms off.

It knocked all comms out planet wide for a month? The largest UNSC military stronghold? 343 tried to explain that ONI actually kept all of it quiet I believe, but its absolutely ridiculous and too far fetched to believe given the time and amount of military presence. Secrets like that don’t last long, let alone a month.

So you’re saying that the UNSC’s most fortified world is so stupid, blind, and incompetent that they can’t notice hundreds of kilometer+ long ships raining plasma on them for an entire month? Notice burning wreckages raining from orbit? Notice aliens running up and killing them? Because that what 343i reduced the UNSC to when they rewrote TFoR to “rationalize” the novel and Reach game.

The heck are you talking about? TFoR was never rewritten.

They rereleased TFoR twice, with several retcons

Wrong. It did get rewritten in 2011 to make it so that the game and novel didn’t contradict each other.
Unfortunately this made the UNSC migraine inducing levels of stupid. -.-

Not exactly, just trying to come up with possible solutions.

I think you’re forgetting the TFoR re-release changed very little. Really only the wording of a couple things and added an adjunct section at the end. They added more stuff to the overall story of Reach later outside the novel, I think that is what has everyone up in arms
Everyone is up in arms because Bungie made a bad Halo game (story wise) and trashed one of the best stories already in the universe. 343 did what it could to remedy it without destroying one or the other.

The events in the actual simulation are not canon because it is a simulation ‘played’ by Spartan-IV’s. It’s based on a real event that happened during that Battle but the simulation itself is not canon, only in the sense that several Spartans ‘played’ through it during their training in 2557
