Are some matches just cursed or is this intentional?

I have a theory that the ranked matches have predetermined winners and losers…ie, an extreme application of the MMR goal of you only winning 50% of your matches.

I think if you’re doing well one series of matches, the game will purposefully cause you to have bad hit detection, bad desync, and whatever else it can do to backhand you off the ladder you were just climbing.

The majority of the stats in this game are not legitimate. People who are objectively bad at every FPS can get a middle tier rank effortlessly, and every now and again will get a ton of kills on you.

Something is weird, and I feel like everyone is assuming too much that its not by design.

Your MMR will drift a bit on the back of good games and tend to give you a big of a challenge. There are factors for form and time since last played etc.

This is kind of what you want. The opportunity to rank up if deserved.

But overall your 50% rate is a product of your skill ceiling. No more. No less.

Runs of better or worse rates are just fluctuations in form.

But the stuff about deliberately sabotaging you with desync and lag etc. That is tin foil hat territory.

Why? Its not like it isn’t possible. Ever wonder why some matches your bullets are made of pudding but you still have 30 ping? Ever wonder why you lose autoaim randomly in some matches? Ever wonder why you seem to get shot through walls a lot more after you’ve won a few matches?

We know why. Desync plus or minus lag.

But just like the match maker mixing up the skill level of your opponents… fate mixes up the effect of desync and lag.

It happens to your opponents just as much as it happens to you.

You just associate it with losing because;
a) You are more likely to lose if you are struggling with desync or lag.
b) You forget about it you win.

Plus you have already admitted to quitting out of games as soon as you spot the slightest bit of lag or desync. So you are making an even more of stronger correlation between those factors and losing.

There are plenty of people out there who win or do well despite these things. They are either one off episodes for the whole game, affect other people just as much, or can be over come.

I recently came 2nd in a LSS match despite 200ms unstable ping.

Anything is possible… but concluding that 343 are deliberately sabotaging your game to keep you from ranking up or having fun is drifting into flat earth, anti-vax, and lizard poltergeists running the white house territory.

No, because the system wants you to win half your games at most. So if you consistently do well, it HAS to make you do poorly.

And evidently nobody else in these matches is getting desync. They’re SHOOTING THROUGH WALLS. I can’t shoot through walls, so I don’t have matches where the enemy is suffering from desync.

It’s you being played if you keep falling for that line from them.

The system just wants to match you into evenly contested games.

The 50:50 is a natural by product of that.

It’s not a case of TrueSkill2 vs you.

It would be very self centred and selfish to think that this is just a you problem.

Lag is a two way problem.

You do realise that from their perspective you didn’t actually go around the corner. They shot you in the head before you disappeared. And on the same page, a few of those players you nailed as they tried to run away thought they made it safety in time.

OK.

But as long as I keep buying stuff from the store I’m protected right…

This is just a myth. People know when they get illegitimate kills. “Desync” is just an excuse for their system that artificially boosts kd and win/loss.

If desync was real, then why is it only ever one way? Why can I not shoot people through walls? Why am I the one getting shot through walls?

Is it because I’m on PC and they’re on Xbox? Because I think I have ample proof that “desync” only happens when that’s a factor?

You can tell by the way they -Yoink!- so quickly, it’s input related. You can’t spam bag and swap weapons back and forth that fast on pc. You can’t shoot twice as fast on pc.

I mean it feels that way sometimes. Tonight I lost a really close, sweaty match only to follow up with a a 3 v. 1 situation and then my game crashes the third match. Its as if the game said I wasn’t allowed to gain in rank this evening. Terrified to log back on to see how much I lost. When the game works it is fantastic! It just doesn’t work.

It’s already been proven so it’s not a theory.

God I hope you are just trolling now…

Desync by it’s nature tends to be one way. It’s the grenade that doesn’t explode or the rocket splash that does no damage.

But the important thing is it can happen to any player.

Some more than others. But it’s not just a you problem. And it’s certainly not a conspiracy by 343 to stop you ranking up.

If you are talking about being shot as you move around a corner… that’s more of a lag thing.

From their perspective they shot you behind the eyes before you went around the corner. From your perspective you went around the corner first.

So anytime you shoot someone and kill them just before they escape - was potentially you shooting them through the wall from their view point.

No. Because desync happens on Xbox too.

No. I refuse to believe desync is happening to everyone the same.

If it was, I would be able to shoot people through walls, or my grenades would work as they’re supposed to, or my melees wouldn’t whiff.

They do that, not me.

Desync does happen to people differently. It’s obviously a multi-factorial issue. And complicated.

But it does happen to everyone else.

Yours are not the only melees that whiff. Or rockets that splash limply. Or 'nades that fails to detonate. And for the most part the only person that is going to notice it is the person where it has failed.

I do occasionally think to myself that rocket SHOULD have killed me - that’s gotta suck from their angle.

As for shooting around corners. That happens to everyone. It sucks. It’s not just you. Get over it.

so how do you do it, what’s the trick

The trick is to find someone who is struggling with their ping.

I suggest 200ms or more. Bonus if you can get someone with a “bad latency” warning as well.

Then you shoot them. Pace your shots so that the last couple are as they are running towards the corner.

You’ll get the kill… and then 250ms later you’ll hear them cry “Oh noes… he shot me around the corner”.

Bonus points if you can shoot them around the corner through their tin foil hat.

people with bad ping usually shoot through walls, I don’t know what you think you mean there

I have low ping usually, and I never shoot through walls

People don’t shoot through walls.

They are shooting players just before they move around the corner.

On their screen you are still in the open.

On your screen though it appears you are behind the wall when the last shot is fired.

The game prioritises the shooter - so the last shot is registered and blam… you are dead.

Nobody is shooting “through” the wall.

they’re 100% shooting through walls. If they weren’t, then the bullets wouldn’t hurt you THROUGH WALLS

And the game doesn’t prioritize the shooter or shots would actually register in this game…many games they don’t, at all.

Yep. You’re absolutely right. They are shooting you through the walls. It’s a special ability only granted to your opponents. 343 have made a pact to make sure you never rank up.

It comes down to a ping issue, this combined with desynch can really make you rage. And vise versa some times this causes shot registration issues so you can get the drop on someone and fumble it because your headshot was off by a half a second.

yes, that’s what I’ve been saying this whole time

They pick and choose who they want it to happen to, and it is related mostly to how well they’ve been doing. If your MMR is too high you get a bout of desync and get shot through walls all match
