Respawn timers currently sit at around 8-10 seconds, depending on game mode. For some modes like Objective and Ranked, I can understand wanting a longer respawn time - this prevents players from hammering objectives and providing more emphasis on “playing your life” mindset.
For more casual modes, and especially ones where there are quick kill times, I do not understand the logic of having long respawns. In SWAT/Tac Slayer, most encounters last half-seconds at best, and can often happen back-to-back off of spawn. This can result in 16 seconds of down time where players have nothing to do but spectate. The same can happen in Fiesta. Even casual modes, like Slayer, does not feel like they should have such long and somewhat punishing respawn timers.
What are the community’s thoughts on this? Some say that these respawn times are perfect, but I just feel like having so much down time really puts a huge roadblock on the flow and fun of the match.
For sure. I’d put SWAT and Fiesta at around 5 seconds, and maybe Slayer at 6-7. Leave Ranked and Objective as is because I personally feel that they’re fine the way they are.
Yeah, the traditional 5 seconds for Slayer and 10 for objective would be better, but it’s not awful as is, IMO. I really only find it annoying in SWAT when I die on respawn because I spawned right in someone’s line of sight.
That’s the absolute worst. It happens rarely in Fiesta, but dying back to back in SWAT and having to stare at other people having fun is why I made this post. Death comes fast, and that’s fine, it’s just too long between death and gameplay.
I wholeheartedly agree and it both frustrates and saddens me that no one seems to care about it. Feels like I’m on the wrong side of this one. 5 seconds has been the Halo standard for years, and while I understand that sprint changes things, I just cannot agree with 8-10 seconds for non-competitive modes. It just feels like a harsh, un-fun punishment when I’m supposed to be having ‘fun’ in non-comp modes. It’s the single thing killing the experience for me.
I’m definitely in the camp that wants shorter respawn times. I was surprised how empty some small maps feel in FFA. I always thought Aquarius was small, but in FFA I can never find anyone, because they’re dead. It’s not even so much me being dead for so long that is the issue, which I still don’t like. I don’t understand why it’s so long now.
While I agree respawn times are too long, they kind of need to be if you are in support of there being Sprint/slide boosts to get in position on the map quicker. Otherwise, remove that stuff and get respawn times decreased to get us back in to fight that way instead. - all would be glory
I think the Respawn in slayer modes is definitely a little too long. I feel like 5 seconds would be much better than the 7-8 we have now in Slayer. I would like to go lower, but the occasionally iffy spawn system needs some tweaks before we can go much lower than 5 without people spawning behind each other or really close to a lethal line of sight too often.
PLEASE for the love of god reduce the RESPAWN time! It completely SLOWS down the flow of the game! Have it match Halo 4 timing! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!
I just came back from COD to complete my winter BP and jumped into BTB. Going from no respawn time to 10 seconds made me want to quit mid match
Let’s drop it down to 0-2 seconds and have some fun with it
