In honor and defense of the plasma pistol, my text will be green.
Anyway, the magnum already looks relatively useful, so I can see most people defaulting to that.
Even if most people decide to use it off spawn, the same thing already happens in Invasion in Reach. People start with the plasma pistol, and have relatively easy access to needle rifles in the first round if they’re playing as elites, but the case of a team getting truly shut out by a skilled Noob Combo user is pretty rare, in my experience.
Even if someone truly dominates with a DMR/Needle Rifle spawn, the plasma pistol isn’t good for many overcharges, considering the battery life is shallow, and people who burst fire the plasma pistol to lower shields and go for a beatdown are as easily trumped by basic shooting from a decent gunman as any other underhanded tactic.
People often over-dramatize things that, in reality, aren’t a big deal. I’d wager that ANYTHING in Halo, whether an armor ability or a combination of weapons and tactics, isn’t unbeatable, has drawbacks, and can be solved with a decent trigger finger.
The use of the plasma pistol as a sidearm will be benign at best, and if I’m wrong, they’ll nerf it. The sky isn’t falling.

That or vehicles render pretty much ineffective or irritating to use combined with the EMP grenade in BTB.
I really can’t say what the effect of having PP starts will have until I say the numbers of players choosing to.

I found using vehicles in Reach as a human very frustrating. Every enemy spawned with stickies and a PP. It was impossible top go anywhere in a warthog without getting blown up within the first 20 second of its operation.
Unless the new plasma pistol isn’t the one we all know and love, then BTB in Halo 4 will be similarly frustrating.

if you mean by driving a warthog that you’re driving it straight into the enemy, you deserve to be killed in less than 20 seconds.
People who complained about weak vehicles don’t know how to drive them.

I hope they don’t change a weapon with unique features just to balance it as a spawn weapon.
hears an idea, make it so that the pp chargeshot makes the vehicle controls inverted on light vehicles/ non tanks instead of emp. that way the driver has a chance to escape. chargeshot would still deplete shields on the player outside of vehicles and btb would benefit from this
Edit: tanks and aircrafts would remain EMP while all others would have their controls inverted.

air crafts and tanks would be emp while light vehicles would be inverted
