I mean in the older games, like 3, are the maps and their descriptions accurate, I.e. the Pit being an established UNSC bass that is abandoned, or the Aegis Fate at the Ark on Sand trap, or even Valhalla and the crew of V-938.
For Machinima story purposes, just to be safe.
Aegis Fate is canon as it also appeared in Halo Reach.
V-938 is also canon as the Halo 4 maps are confirmed canon and V-938 is also canon.
It can be assumed that the other maps are also canon.

Most of the original trilogy maps have been added into War Games canon, it’s safe to assume that while some details were changed with artistic license, the majority of them are accurate and based on “real-world” locations.

All maps are canon in some form or another.
Whether it be through that map being an actual location. A modified version of said location for scenarios. Only exceptions are Forge maps(for the most part) and the Halo 2 Vista Map example.

I mean Midship is placed in covenant ahip and we saw them in the ark cutscene, the inside of it and its similiar. There are quite a few exceptions, like Backwash in Halo 2. Correct me if im wrong.

Backwash is canon. 343 went back and made backstories for most of the locations. The ones in H2 for the most part come from readings that In Amber Clad took over Delta Halo

All of those are canon. Most of them came from readings taken by Forward Unto Dawn or supplied by the Sangheili if I remember right.
