So I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seems as though the idea of a clan is dying. In halo 2 and 3, it was incredibly easy to run into other clans just through matchmaking alone. It was also really easy to run into recruits this way too. So easy, infact, that My clan and I didn’t feel the need to turn to the internet for recruits and matches until halo reach
Nowadays, it seems as though the days of grand battles and wars between clans are behind us, and the tight-knit, family-like teams have all but vanished; Almost all of the clans from halo 2 have dissolved, save for a few, and the rest have been absorbed one by one into these “gaming communities” that span multiple games and contain thousands of members, but with no sense of family or purpose behind them.
There is also the huge lack of new clans emerging. Don’t get me wrong, hundreds of clans are born each day, but the problem is that they are usually dead by sun-down. The recruitment page is filled with dozens of single post clans with no responses in them.
Halo 2 clans that dissolved, that is normal. Life moves one and people grow up and can’t find so much time Halo clans anymore.
It is easier to join a gaming community and be recognized for it then join clan. If you join X community, then someone will be like “oh, how is the X community? I was considering whether to join that or not”. If you join a clan, then you will get “what is clan Y? Never heard of them”.
Well, like you said, some people go join gaming communities. Some people left Halo because it isn’t what it is supposed to be. Some of the clans are purely for Halo 4 and Reach, when the people who join want Halo 3 clans. Some people don’t have as much money as they did 10 years ago and can’t subscribe to XBL all the time. So you filter out all those people and the people who are already in a clan and the people who just play Halo for fun (casuals, you know, people who play it a hour a day), and you have very few left.
I don’t think clans are dying. Clans have always been a part of Halo, but they sure have been shot in the foot.
I’ve seen much less clans in Matchmaking as well. Factor in all that Yiazmat012 has said, and the facts that clans can be hard to manage, people have less time, games have dropping population, and some people don’t like being in clans.
I think it would be nice to see clan support once again in future Halo titles.
It really depends on the type of clan too, like I was in a few clans before that had a great family of fun-loving, social players but those clans that force you into doing things you don’t want to do (show up at a certain time and get kicked out if you don’t, clan gamertags, angry leaders) are totally not my type of thing. If anyone wants to join a clan, they should make sure that the clan will help make his or her game experience a more pleasant one and not a chore.

I get these messages constantly also.
OT: I think clans are actually minimal in Halo 4 due to the population. I personally would never join a clan because the majority of them seem to have the most idiotic rules and requirement.

People hate me after they send me these messages.
I integrate people who send me messages, and I don’t recognize the gamertag.
But as far as clans. Halo based clans, older clans have mostly died out because those older guys are adults, who have real life responsibilities to deal with. The newer clans are annoying, and harder to find out about, partly due to the fact that Waypoint doesn’t support groups like Bungie’s site did. There hasn’t been a “Clan” feature, like Halo 2 had.
But clans in general, it’s all in the games you play, Xbox games, some do have strong long living clans, others clans are dying out. PC, Clans are the same, but a larger percent of the clans aren’t solely one game clans, they’re multi game clans. The clan I’m in, is a multi game clan that started out in Halo, and has moved from Halo to other games, right now we’re on minecraft, warframe, and a few other PC based games. We’re groups of friends, and friends of friends are invited, and we’ve done some recruiting, but we’re not dying out.
Not my clan well I should say gaming community, we been around sense halo 2 and where still polling new recruits from halo and other pvp games. We still run very well.

Same here. Why do we even need to change our gts or give a code or money or something anyways!
> Same here. Why do we even need to change our gts or give a code or money or something anyways!
Normally games would have some kind of tagging system that lets you put your clan tag in you display name, so people know you’re with that clan. I don’t do this, mostly because I hate changing my name, and I hate it when other change their names.
As far as codes and money, I am not sure. If anything, it should be a “If you want, you can donate money for a clan web site, or teamspeak server.” Not a “You need to pay X amount of money to be in the clan.” That sounds more like a club. I also don’t get the whole tryouts, it makes no sense to me, but then again, the clan I’m in, it’t mostly made up friends, and friends of friends, and we don’t do “Tryouts” to recruit people.

As a clan leader myself, I speak for my clan and I that the reason we don’t touch Halo 4 is the lack-luster state of forge/customs and the overall bad gameplay. We love Reach and 3 though.

I agree, as well. I, for one, am not really “clan-material”, but I too have seen the lack of clans in Halo 4.
Maybe thats why. Lots of you are complaining that clans have these idiotic rules and regulations they would force upon you. It didn’t use to be that way. Instead of feeling as though you were part of a family. You were always with people that you knew like the back of your hand.
I was personally good friends with everyone, including the leader. there were no rules like show up on this game at this hour. It was hey what do you guys want to do today? custom games on halo 3, matchmaking, or do you want to play some cod?
It was the same when I became leader.
But now, almost all clans are “GET UP OFF THE GROUND MAGGOT, I HAVE THIS SECRET NEED TO ACT LIKE A DRILL SERGEANT!”
Maybe its because of the low population in halo 4. I just don’t know.
But as yamaitz said, they certainly have been shot in the foot

I think it’s mostly because of MLG, people want to put together a clan of winners, so they can create their fantasy MLG tournament team.
So the idea of a clan designed around MLG purpose and clan wars, has overtaken the idea of a friendly group of people who are family and friends, or CLAN, are starting to die out.
Personally, I never found any appeal in joining a “clan” with bunches of people and organization and practice and stuff. I want to have fun when I play and that can be playing seriously one day and goofing off the next. I don’t want to be limited by what someone over the internet has arbitrarily set the rules to be.
I have 100 spots on my friends list. I can/have filled that with people I enjoy playing a variety of games with. I have no need for some hyperorganized group to tell me how to look/play. Not worth my time and energy.
As somebody who has been apart of many Halo clans, I can tell you that the Halo 4 community of clans is dead. However if you are looking for a clan Halo reach’s community is still pretty strong.
