Are Banshees bad or do I just suck?

I mainly play arbiter and shipman, and I feel forced to build ground and infantry (phantoms not included for obvious reasons). Whenever I run banshees they just suck and die, even if i micro or send in hunters to destroy the AA.
Im not sure what im doing wrong cause I upgrade the air tech and -Yoink- but they keep on dying.

We are currently in a vehicle meta right now, all of the competitive players pretty much only go vehicles with a sprinkle of infantry because air dies so easily when there are constant engagements. Air only really works in team games if the teammates give the air player enough time to mass their army. You are not alone in this sentient.

Short answer: Yes, Banshees do suck.

Longer answer: all air, save Vultures and Phantoms, are really only effective when massed (80+ pop).

In the mid-game, going air is often asking to lose, especially in this vehicle meta. Hogs are much cheaper, easier to mass, and the player is able to easily pump of a couple Wolverines.

There are only a few times I feel comfortable going air.

  1. We/I have the advantage. If I posses the advantage after the early game, air is an excellent way to close out the game and break a turle.

  2. Maps that compliment air. Maps such as Highway or Vault are larger maps that feature varied terrain. Air benefits from both of these factors, as its able to fully utilize its mobility.

  3. Suuuuuper late game. As I said before, air is VERY expensive, but in the late game, where I have a stable Eco (double or triple base), I can often afford to triple pump, effectively smothering an opponent in air units.

  4. Certain Leaders. There are certain leaders that have abilities that benifit air. The most noticeable of these are Deci’s Banshees or Ander’s Sentinels. If massed, these two forves are very, very difficult to deal with. Other examples are Redline II Hornets ir Inspired Hornets, etc. Going air with these leaders (while considering the above), can sometimes be an good idea.

I would really like to see air do more damage to vehicles (excluding AA). This would allow air to be a more effective soft/counter to vehicles in the mid-game.

You should only mass Banshees in team games, and really only as a few leaders. They get slaughtered unless they’re in a critical mass.

Unless you’re Decimus, I see no reason to use Banshees. Speaking of Banshees it took me awhile to realize they don’t have Boost…

Combining banshees with leader powers can be good. But if you go air you really need to hide it and get tech 3 and the torpedo upgrade. Once I get that I mix in some blisterbacks engineers and shrouds. The blisterbacks you can place in strategic locations and murder anti air then fly in with banshees to finish hogs. But it’s very difficult strat. If you like Shipmaster you should try splitting the enemy army with Displacement get anti air out and hit the hogs.
Also going all units makes air get killed faster because they bunch up and take AOE DAMAGE.
You gotta split air units.
but yes the vehicle Meta does run the game currently.
Hogs and Marauder air damage needs to be decreased.

I don’t know if air takes too much damage from vehicles or if core Air units just don’t effectively counter their core vehicle counterpart. In a perfect world, core are and AV should beat any vehicle army in 1s and right now it really just doesn’t.

Banshees are only viable after a multiple jump brute cheese in team games, and then only if the whole team goes banshees as decimus or atriox for healing and invulnerability.
