Banshee spam has been here since launch, as we know, but little has ever been done about it. In my opinion most units are fairly well balanced in the current meta, yet Banshees stick out like a sore thumb at the moment because they melt bases faster than fat kid eats a candy bar. Hornets are also relatively even-matched until Banshees get plasma torpedos, which puts them out of line with any other aircraft in the game. There’s an issue when eight banshees are more effective AA than five-six wolverines.
Am I the only one who thinks this? Am I just crazy?
EDIT: I should note, I’m referring to 2v2 & 3v3 game modes, NOT 1v1

Banshee spam never existed until a season ago. They were almost useless, only reason people do them now is because T3 is now actually worthy to do other things than pop 120. So people can spam them to save a lot of power and still have enough firepower to take down minibases quickly instead of spamming locusts.
I don’t believe they’re OP in the slightest on 1v1. That’s why I’m asking what modes you play.

Banshees die pretty quickly to both wolves and reavers, in an army with a handful of wolves and reavers mixed in, they will handle banshees and hornets without issue, at least in 1v1. If you allow your opponent to amass a full population of banshees, then it’s a failure to scout/harass on your part.

I don’t play much 3v3 but I’m champion rank on 2v2. Literally never seen this in the current season. I only ever saw this one or two seasons ago and it was due to poor scouting on my part.
If you scout well you’ll be aware of their production all the time and simply counter them faster than they expect you to.
If you let them do that without you scouting you won’t have time to counter, and the same can be said about spamming any other unit type. Banshees just have the added benefit of ignoring terrain and mobility.
I dont think the banshees are too powerful, i just think the hornet could use a buff. I would say move the wing man power-up to T3 and have it function more like the plasma torpedo, or you could make the hornet stronger against buildings and buff the wolverines. I think the Banish air army is well balanced, they just need to bump up the viability of air and anti air for the UNSC.
I’ve seen it used quite often. It seems like the banshees can overpower anti air in most 2v2 and 3v3 games once you have them built up. Especially when it’s colony using them with the health regen ability
I personally believe in 2s or 3s 1 player should always go banshees to force the opponents to build anti air and prevent them from getting tech 3 quickly. Then swapping to wraiths and Locus to murder their anti air army. If they don’t build anti air then you just win the game. Your teammate goes anti vehicle like cyclops or Hunters and anti air to run through his army as well. Personally love doing this with colony and getting the vehicle drop to help swap to vehicles and put vehicle sembiotics on my vehicles as well.

I think hornets are suppose to be well rounded while banshees are suppose to be more specialized
i do think another balance change for banshees vs anti air needs to happen. what to change, im not sure at the moment.
i mostly play 3s and we usually have a teammate playing ship with 2 foundarys making locust/reavers. so airs not really a big deal, and shipmaster player that can multitask will eat banshees alive.
I had an idea for buffing anti air because UNSC seem to have the hardest time with banshee spam in 2v2 and 3v3s. Increase the view range, missile velocity, and range of the wolverine. The problem is that the banshees can kite the wolverines very easily making it hard for all of the wolverines in your army to even get a volley off.
I dont see opponents spamming mass Banshees in 1v1 unless they are a non-shipmaster Banished player who basically has already lost the game and its a desperation move to base trade. Wolverine/Forgehog/Vulture utterly annihilates mass banshee.

I know the OP’s post is referring to team matches, but I don’t know if you are.
In 1v1s you should be able to keep enough pressure on your opponent and scout effectively that Banshees are no problem.

There isn’t any fundamental difference between 1v1 and 3v3. Just 3 times the units and 3 times the bases.
Just because you never get to the banshee stage 1v1 doesn’t just erase the fact that they are OP. If you do manage to get an army of banshees 1v1, it’s game over.
