Are assassinations no longer in Halo?

I absolutely loved the tech test. Very well done. I noticed in the tech test that when you hit someone from behind it does not do an assassination animation. I’m hoping this is just because it was the tech test. However, we now get a medal for a melee kill from behind. Does the fact that there is a medal mean there are no longer assassinations? I loved the customization options for the animations and I personally think it would be unfortunate for Halo Infinite to not have this anymore. With that said, I really enjoys playing Halo Infinite. Great job. Can’t wait to get my hands on the next test and eventually the final product.

Assassinations won’t be in the game at launch, but 343 have already commented that they have plans to bring them back. Want to do a little work on them first and bring them back in a meaningful way

Assassinations won’t be in the game on its release though I hope when they do get added again we get a variety like Halo 5: Guardians.

Thank you  sounds good to me.

We certainly will, there will probably be a whole battle pass themed around them/stealth and then have new and cool ones in future battle passes after that.

They stated in the “Technical Preview Preview” stream that Assassination animations will not be in the game at launch. They made this decision based on the data that most players turned these off in the settings menu of most Halo titles so they decided to not focus on it for launch if people weren’t going to use it in the game.

It was stated that they know some people really love the animations and they want to incorporate them post launch in some sort of way. However, this may not be the same way you remember them as they noted that these animations in previous Halos were noted to be tactical downsides (leaves you open forever) and they want to implement them in a way where people would want to leave them enabled.

They either need to be quicker or set it so it’s not hold to activate. If it was double melee press, I’d have them enabled. Still would rarely use them, but it would be great when the opportunity does arise.

My guess is implantation of the assassinations is dependent to some degree on the Slipspace engine team, and not only the actual game development team themselves. The engine team is likely prioritizing lighting and rendering optimization over extra animations.

They’ll show up eventually I bet!

They said during a Q&A that assassinations will not be in the game at launch because they want to integrate them more into the core gameplay loop. My guess is that they mean something like Apex where you regain your shields by doing finishers.
imo, Not a fan of them not being in the game at launch. At this point, assassinations are something I expect to be in halo, and it feels like they were taken out just because pro players don’t use them, which feels odd, to say the least.

So it sounds like they’re going to be battle pass bait further down the line then…

I preferred them gone. It sucks when your teammate does an assassination then gets kill from it.

Assassinations should be in campaign at least but in multiplayer it’s a big drawback because you can be getting shot at while performing an assassination

There coming in a future battle pass man, relax.

Any idea what they mean by “more meaningful”? I don’t want them if it’s just a flashier kill that takes longer and only exists to look good in marketing videos. I don’t want them if they are just slipped in as another thing to grind for without any concern for how they fit into the balance.

Apex had its finishing moves which started out as just another slot for cosmetic unlocks, originally serving little actual purpose to the initiator other than to put them in unnecessary danger, and later Respawn made the good choice of causing it to reward an instant shield refill. But that is Apex, with a much different kind of shield. Halo would need something else.

Can we get Beat Down back? Back Smack is the lamest one so far

I like back smack! Also the power of melees in the preview really gave off a FAL-Conn PUUNNNNCHHH feel.

I’ve had two main ideas for how to make assassinations worth keeping on.

  • Make it so the assassinated player gets a slightly longer respawn timer than normal. Maybe +3 seconds (value is debatable) - Make it so players with an OS need two back smacks to be killed, but an assassination is still a one hit kill on them. #2 isn’t quite as powerful a change as #1, but either could give assassinations a bump they need for players to not just disable them.

Confirmed to not be present at launch, may be introduced later on
