Are any1 else slayer games super sweaty

I mean, it could be:

  • your limited time spent playing this game has been against bots, that while pretty well programmed are still predictable and considerably worse at threat assessment, deception, and varying tactics than human players
  • the game operates differently to past Halo titles in a number of ways (possibly more similar to 5, I wouldn’t know) - some things like radar being waaaay less helpful and lack of melee lunge have got me killed a few times, that’s for sure, neither of which were as noticeable with bots
  • it’s a tech preview, you’re gonna get iffy things going on with bugs, non-final implementations, lack of optimization
  • likely lag due to lack of optimizations for engine and servers, relatively small and likely fairly spread out matchmaking pool
  • as people are saying, the people who have signed up for this are at least reasonably dedicated to the Halo games, and the ones playing it constantly even more so, so the average player in the flight will likely be noticeably better than the true ‘average’ Halo player

Or it could be that they went way, way, way out of their way to import MMR from other Halo games and systems explicitly for this flight - nay, not even the whole flight, just this final period where PVP is available! - just so they could match you, explicitly you, in to unwinnable games.

Lucky for you they have added bot matches where you can practice and get better before playing against actual people

I just signed up but I can’t wait to get nice and sweaty playing Halo again. The adrenaline really makes me sweat, and gives me insane body odor. my forehead is gonna be so greasy too. can’t wait

This is gross, but is also an accurate description of me after like 2 hours of H5 competitive arena. I expect the same will be true for Infinite

I figured it would be like that, so I’m avoiding the mode entirely. I’d rather just play and have fun against bots.

Or they built the game to be sweaty. The radar kills it for me as well Ill be doing well then Bam people out of nowhere going full speed

Don’t worry! You can always play the bot matches and brush up on your skills before playing in public matches

I was hesitant to even join it. I could sense the sweat. And wasn’t wrong.

I did my one match 48-50 and got out. Might do some more bot killing as well later.

I like how there’s bad players complaining about getting -Yoink- on, yet also complaining about SBMM

Goodness me, it’s a damn technical preview, and it was less than 2 hours of PvP slayer. People already -Yoinking!- about SBMM. It’s most likely either the other players were just better than you, or the issues with input latency and what not are playing a factor.

Its a flight full of hardcore fans thats been waiting for years to play. I would have been suprised if it wasnt. Dont worry, there will be millions on casuals for you to stomp on release day. I like it sweaty though… I mean, you will never get better as a player if you don’t get out of your comfort zone and play good players. Yeah, you’ll get smashed at first, but you will improve.

I had a player on the opposing team get 28 kills. I wish I could tell who was PC and who was Xbox… because he was stomping us. I assume he was PC.

But that’s the nature of this flight, the most hardcore Halo veterans are the ones who knew how to sign up and get invited and keep up to date on when PvP would go live.

WHAT when did they have PVP at all in this test?! I played for hours on several different days and even during test windows and NEVER saw PVP only bot slayer! What did I miss???

Apparently there was a 2 hour window during the night (I’m in a EU timezone) were they did a PVP lobbies. I also didnt get to play it cause i was sleeping :frowning:

There’s probably not a system in place in the Technical Alpha right now. They just wanted to open it up for a little bit to give people a chance to play some real competition. Release will be a better judge of how sweaty social games will be.

Wow I wish they had given an obvious heads up somewhere on the main screen, so disappointed I missed that.

> Edit: I’m like 99% sure there is skill based matchmaking in this game now if this stays I don’t think I will

I’m not sure about the technical preview, but HI will have SBMM as it should. Every Halo game has had SBMM including H2. It makes the experience better for pretty much everyone.

> With new training options, bots to spar against, skill-based-matchmaking, and improved systems that deliver better communication of key info to players during a match, we’re excited to welcome Spartans of all skill levels and help you battle your way to the top each season.

https://www.vice.com/en/article/jgq5w8/why-players-blame-skill-based-matchmaking-for-losing-in-call-of-duty

> “From day one in Halo 2, we had skill-based matchmaking,” said Max Hoberman, the former Halo 2 multiplayer lead who now runs his own studio Certain Affinity. "You had ranked and unranked playlists, and even the unranked playlist tracked and matched you based on your skill—the sole difference between the two is that one didn’t display your skill rating."According to Hoberman, the reason why Bungie decided to make the distinction between unranked and ranked playlists, despite them running on the same matchmaking systems, was one of perception.

The SBMM in H2 was the foundation for Trueskill, a system still in use today in games like MCC. Trueskill 2 is what more modern games are using like H5 and likely HI.

It appears sbmm is in as I keep playing with the same people and coming low table, but when I play with my friend who is not as serious about Halo and doesn’t do too well against the bots I’m getting like 30 kills a game.

Could be wrong but it really does feel that way. Most of my games have been ending 50 - <10 and I think it’s because I’m always being paired up with tryhards like myself.

Keep in mind mosty of the people playing the flighting are Halo vets. There are also people like myself walking around who treat every match like it’s ranked
