Because I think the best halo still is reach and Halo 4 went too far from it. Does anyone else think the new halo should be more halo-like?
First off this thread really has nothing to do with Halo 5 and do you seriously think its fair to judge Bungie who has made 5 Halo games vs 343i who had made 1 right now?

Dont poop yourself, I’m just asking.

But it’s an unfair question. Bungie made 5 Halos vs. 343’s 1 (2 if you count Anniversary).
No simply because knowing that they were needing to fill some heavy shoes they failed in giving us a proper Halo game and introduced call of duty aspects and other pointless things that were not needed to begin with such as the announcer saying pretty much any medal you get, sprint beig a default and other ideas they implemented. I’m not saying they are bad but they seriously -Yoinked!- up on Halo 4’amd honestly numbers tell you everything and that’s why Halo population and even popularity dropped.
They should have looked back on the games that made the series amazing and built from that instead of Reach and call of duty. Halo is not meant to be modernized.
This thread is honestly troll bait and is likely going to start arguments. It also has nothing to do with halo 5, this should be moved to the general discussion section.
> First off this thread really has nothing to do with Halo 5 and do you seriously think its fair to judge Bungie who has made 5 Halo games vs 343i who had made 1 right now?
No, you’re right, it isn’t fair. Bungie had absolutely nothing to build off of, and they ended up creating a masterpiece from scratch in the form of Halo 1, all with a small team. This continued on to create more masterpieces, Halo 2, 3 and ODST. They built a great franchise from the ground up, without anything on which to base themselves.
343 Industries, on the other hand, had an amazing award-winning formula. All they had to do is build off of what Bungie did. They didn’t have to go through the tremendous trouble of figuring out how to make a good game from scratch, all they had to do is take what Bungie did and improve on that. They had a large team full of industry veterans.
So you’re right, it’s unfair to judge Bungie and 343i on the same level, since 343i should be judged more harshly. They were given something that worked great, and they completely destroyed it. They had huge expectations to meet, and had the tools to do so, yet they failed.

Although I agree I have my own dislikes for 343’s vision as to how they made Halo 4. What is best to keep in mind is that they believed it was for the good of the series to evolve with the rest of the gaming industry. I dont mind change, but Halo 4’s CoD-esque gameplay left a sour taste in my mouth.
But it is still unfair to judge them. It’s five games to learn lessons from versus one game. Regardless of whether or not they had something to build off of, they’re still a group of new people with their own visions. They’ve admited to their mistakes and all that’s left is to move on and learn from it. But at the same time, Bungie were no saints either. People love to forget that Halo Reach was the most controversial Halo title until Halo 4. Halo 2 was even given it’s own hate website. And Halo 3 was a broken promise of amazing graphics and a stellar campaign (instead we got plastic-looking toy soldiers with crappy lighting and effects and sub-HD res with one of the shortest campaigns.)
Give them time. Halo 4 was their first chance. Now they can learn from it. With Halo 5, we’ll have more concrete reasons to believe whether or not they care about our series enough to make something that even Bungie would envy.
We’ll see how 343 does this time around. Most ( including myself) are skeptical since 343 decided to build off the highly unpopular Reach. I wonder who thought that was a good idea.
343 should have seen that modernizing Halo with the other mainstream titles was a bad idea. The beauty and elegance of halo was the fast starting games and not worrying about what crap to start the game with. All our options and items we’re always left on the battlefield to be fought over.
Why jump on the bandwagon of cookie cutter class shooters when you have the arena shooter nailed to a science?? They had that market bagged and they just let it go. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
> Because I think the best halo still is reach and Halo 4 went too far from it. Does anyone else think the new halo should be more halo-like?
You think Reach is the best halo? Reach is by far the worst. Halo 4 is much more halo than Reach was. As long as 343 keeps heading in the right direction as they did with the TU and newest map pack, H5 will be awesome.
Halo wars was made by Ensemble.
If I see Halo 4 as a deconstruction of the Bungie’s Halo, then maybe I can see the merits of 343i’s vision. But as a standalone Halo experience, 343i has fallen flat on what I expect out of a Halo game.
> Because I think the best halo still is reach and Halo 4 went too far from it. Does anyone else think the new halo should be more halo-like?
Finally someone else who enjoys Reach! I think my two favorites are Reach and Halo 2. Halo 2 would be my favorite except for its lack of an ending and Reach’s space mission. I liked how Halo 3 had full elite playability as well as customization for them but besides the customization it felt just like Halo 2. Reach on the other hand tried to experiment and while they messed up on some stuff (looking at you armor lock) I found the experience fun.
Is it fair to judge one game compared to five games? Story wise 343, Bungie failed with 2, 3 and Reach in the story department, I don’t like multiplayer so I’m neutral

It still doesn’t mean they deserve one chance. With the next Halo, we’ll be able to properly judge their worth.
Bungie didn’t make Wars
I love how a lot of the Halo fans cry out at how Halo is changing and COD fans can’t get over how their game isn’t. I know not everybody from each party does these things but the irony doesn’t escape me.
> Is it fair to judge one game compared to five games? Story wise 343, Bungie failed with 2, 3 and Reach in the story department, I don’t like multiplayer so I’m neutral
Reach had an atrocious story, didn’t it? All the interesting elements of the Halo story were stripped down in favor of a generic war story which wouldn’t have been so bad if it hasn’t destroyed every bit of canon from The Fall of Reach and then some.
Unlike you, though, I do think Halo 2 was good (yeah, yeah it ended in a cliffhanger- that still didn’t make the story any less amazing IMO) and Halo 3 was okay (it’s second half was top notch, even if nothing happened in the first half of thd game).
In terms of multiplayer, Halo 4 as it came at launch was a huge step back from its predecessors. That said, the game has become significantly better by now- CSR, the weapon tuning update, the online fileshare, Forge Island, the map placement update, better DLC and Forge maps in matchmaking, the red X and the added Team Slayer, Big Team Slayer and Legendary Slayer gametypes into standard playlists. And let’s not forget Ricochet which is no short of amazing.
All in all, the improvements made to Halo 4 and 343i’s constant comments that “Halo 5 will be better” make me feel much more hopeful about the future of multiplayer in the series.

Oh, I agree completely, they deserve the chance to redeem themselves. To me, Halo 5 is their last chance to show us that they learned their lesson and prove that they can make a great Halo game.
Nevertheless, I see no reason for us to give them any more slack than we did with Bungie, especially when they constantly told us to trust them and swore that they were bringing Halo back to their roots. If they’re going to go and stroke their own ego like that and bring up expectations to a ridiculous level, they’d better be able to live up to them.

Halo: Combat Postmodernised
Halo essence is not being communicated by 343 developers PR. Microsoft fails to equip the inventiveness to identify it.
