AR vs. DMR (Tell Why!!)

I have wanted to know, in the majority of your games, what do you prefer as a weapon? Do you prefer the AR or the DMR? Please tell why too, and it needs to be a legit answer! none of this “because its good” stuff, tell me how its good. Don’t insult others because of their weapon choice! Also, If you feel that your AA changes how you use the weapon, please explain how you combine them for a kill.

ex. I prefer the AR because it is the gun I have used since H3 (My first halo game) came out, and I always try to master spawn weapons, which I had to do because 9/10 times you spawned with the AR, And because I just cannot use a Burst/Single shot gun. I could never use the BR, so the DMR just isnt for me.

neither at the moment, they both take about as much skill to use.

I use the DMR because it allows me to be a more effective team mate, and it allows me to move around the entire map without fear of being caught in a situation where I can not defend myself.

Close-mid range AR

Mid-long range DMR

Although I’d take the NR over both.

The AR because I feel it helps promotes the long forgotten art of finding and picking up weapon spawns, which I feel is what still sets Halo apart from the more modern FPS’s and their insta weapon loudouts.
Also I consider myself the type of player who likes to use everything.
The AR is fine and can hold its own when starting out, but I don’t feel weakened when if I swap it away and my magnum for something equal or stronger, giving certain advantages to me who actively searches and swaps for stronger weapons over others with starter weapons.
It doesn’t feel out of place to be running around with say a Needler/Grenade Launcher, and not be at a distinct disadvantage to those just spawning in.

Sure DMR starts are fun, but I’d like to know who honestly swaps it away without second thought for something else other than the NR maybe, or if it is out of ammo. All you really need is the DMR to do fine, picking up a secondary a long the way.

I find the AR useless. I use the DMR in all situations. DMR is obviously better at mid-long ranges but I prefer it at close ranges over the AR since I can kill faster and if we exchange melees I can go for the headshot. I never use the AR though since weapons that you spawn with like the magnum do twice as good as the AR in close and mid range as long as I don’t miss a bunch of shots. I don’t miss a lot so it isn’t a problem for me. The AR is pretty good for newer or lesser skilled players though but I don’t find it very effective because of the long kill times, lack of headshot kills, and the lack of range.

The only thing i dont like about the AR is that it doesnt feel as strong as it should be, if what makes Halo what it is is finding weapon spawns, why should you have a good gun (DMR) to start? If its all you need and just a secondary, it just makes it so you get a weapon that you have to swap, vs. a weapon that does well in all situations, meaning you can spawn with the DMR and not need to swap weapons, which is makes Halo what it is today

Since I play BTB almost exclusively (in terms of MM) I tend to use the DMR more. The AR’s only real role in MM is as a basic close quarters weapon which can be used with some effectiveness in the hands of a skilled player. For example, in a fight between two players, one with a DMR and one with an AR, within the AR’s effective range if the AR uses controlled bursts he has a pretty decent chance of coming out alive, but that’s pretty much it. It’s a decent gun in the right hands but is at the bottom of the “weapon hierarchy” and does not posses superior firepower over any of the others. Well, save for the Plasma Repeater.

DMR, because it can do what the AR can and can’t do.

If anyone wants to see how the AR manages, send me a friend req and go to my file share, you can download and watch me and another play win a whole game. we had a guy and his guest quit, so it was a 2v4, i picked up a variety of weapons, but i get 17/18 kills or so with the AR, so you an see why 343 doesnt apply the zero bloom to the AR, because when a skilled player uses it, its godly, they cant have that, only single shot people are allowed to be good

lol.

I would say I am pretty skilled, and I would also say the AR is anything but godly. Those 17/18 kills don’t mean anything without the context of the game. Who were you playing and how many deaths did you get. If you got 17 kills but 20 deaths how does that prove that the AR is good?

tbh, good is a point of view, I am not good with the DMR, but I am good with the AR because its a weapon im comfortable with. Its not the weapon that is good or bad, its the user.

If I were unskilled with an AR, I’d probably never play Halo again.

I like the AR for its ability to shred peoples’ shields.
