AR, Storm Rifle, Suppressor = Underrated

In Reach - the DMR, Needle Rifle and even the pistol - “headshot” weapons are the only “useful” weapons. What I mean by that is that when going up against any decent/good DMR-ist with an AR or Plasma Repeater (Both UNSC and Covy “assault waepons”) …you are pretty much screwed. (Unless you plant a good grenade or get a bail out nade…something lucky)

In Halo 4, I kind of hope this is different. And I personally (from what I’ve seen already) think it will be. The AR looks beastly. Back to what it was like in Halo 3. More damage, larger clip = Boss and able to take out a guy with a BR, DMR or Carbine. Storm Rifle - watch this gameplay and notice how quickly it puts down/takes down the sheilds of the enemies. A powerful gun. And even though we’ve seen no gameplay of it the Suppressor (the Promethean’s equivalent to both the AR and Storm Rifle) I can image it being similarly powerful compared to both the others.

All the hype is about the BR - that’s pretty much the only gameplay we’ve seen in multi. Don’t get me wrong…I’m not a noob pissed casue I die by headshots left and right - in Reach im a DMR-aholic - check my stats if you don’t believe me -

But I really do think the AR, Storm Rifle and Suppressor (right now) are VERY underrated and we’ll all be surprised how strong these 3 assault weapons are and how useful they really will be. Thanks for your time - looking forward to hearing your responses!

Note: just an FYI in the gameplay video - the storm rifle footage is the last clip

I’m hoping the AR is better in Halo 4. I guess it’s not all that bad in Reach, but I would rather it be more like Halo 3 when you could use AR’s more.

I’m hoping for a more powerful AR.

I hope so.
I know it’ll be in my loadout no matter what though.

One of the reasons that I’m choosing the Engineer specialization first is to get the weapon skin for Suppressor b/c I plan on using it a lot.

I feel the same way!

Same here. ARs and similar weapons needs to work well in this game. Especially of they want custom loadouts to actually work.

I dont want to see, “Customize your loadout anyway you want. So long as ____ is in it.”

I hope that Ill the weapons will be balanced in ultilized in their own way.

It really depends on the distance in my experience. Reach’s AR is strictly a close range weapon; I can take someone out with my DMR to their close range AR, but it’s dependent on me not missing a single headshot. A stronger AR would make things more interesting, for sure! I’m so dependent on precision weapons in Reach to get my kills fast that I only just recently got to Gold on AR kills. That took forever!

I read that it’s supposed to be a little more accurate, which I hope means less lost bullets in mid-range face offs. Most of what I’ve read regarding the AR’s strength has been a little contradictory - the last July Weekly Bulletin in particular. If it is stronger, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I do agree that I would like to see the AR and similar weapons to be useful. During the Halo Reach beta, the AR could take out a DMR user when fired in controlled bursts. I loved this ability, and was very sad to see the AR nerfed in the final product. I would hope that Halo 4 and future games give automatic weapons the love they deserve.

I wish they would lower the bloom a bit. It’s insane on the AR in Reach.

Or keep the bloom and increase the damage, making burst firing and effective tactic.

Ive been hoping for more powerful assault weapons too. After watching your clip I had 2 reactions

  1. Oh my gosh! That’s awesome.
  2. Wow the "competitive community is gonna be in an uproar screaming about how the weapons are “overpowered”.

In all honesty its about time that Halo had some really useful full auto weapons. The presicion weapons have always been better so Im hoping Halo 4 will show due respect for all the weapons in the Sandbox.

I hope they are worth using as a true primaries that I would have a reason to pick them up over the headshot weapons. In campaign and multiplayer.

Headshot weapons have been pretty dominant in every Halo multiplayer and the only games where they have been worth picking up in campaign have been CE and ODST.

> It should be noted that the AR in Halo 3 and Halo Reach both featured 32 round magazines, and both take 16 rounds to kill.

It’s a 20 shot kill in Reach.

Serious. Tried it on Standard slayer too. Up close.

-.-

Competitive players won’t care. They will overall still be better players who just do better anyways.

I really want Automatic weapons to be worth using. In halo 3 I would use mainly auto weapons, and I had a good chance of winning the fight. In reach I was forced to go to the med-long range weapons. I am not good when in a dual with both players shooting. I can not aim for the head. With an auto, It will be easier for me to mow down players. I am also a CQC person, so I really don’t like long range weapons.

I’m truly looking forward to using the AR and according to the folks who just came from PAX this weekend, the AR is more powerful/useful than in the past version of Halo. When you think about it, that makes sense because 343i indicated they consciously balanced out the weapons.

Pray that they are more useful than the 19-20 shot water gun (AR) that was in Reach. Otherwise, the automatics will be low tier once again and laughed at when comes to being viable in a competitive environment. We don’t need anymore useless weapons that take up disk space. What’s the point of loadouts and customization if we are given bad weapons on the scale of the Reach AR?

So far, the Automatics look particularly strong (for once). Especially the AR in Halo 4. The range of Reach with the power of the Halo 3 AR (with a little bit more added power)= might actually be useful.
