test out.
Ding ding
Sadly though we’ll ultimately have to cater to the BR religion OP, really sorry.
Lol too much emphasis on skill. Fyi map comtrol and power weapon control still matter a ton in BR start games. They just aren’t the end all be all because skill shooting can overcome that.

Power weapons only matter because they are capable of instant kills, otherwise it’s just you and the BR.
Map control is important in anything, regardless of weapon.
I just don’t understand how someone could say that emphasis on skill is a bad thing. Weapon variety is the last thing I care about in a Halo game. I want a Halo that rewards me for being more skilled than my opponent. Not a game that holds my hand every step of the way. Halo 5 with AR starts takes an already dumbed down game and dumbs it dosn even more bc the AR can melt people and has a massive reticule. Guess it shouldn’t matter to me though bc if 5 is anything like the Beta I won’t be buying it and I’ve bought every Halo game that has ever come out.

Doesn’t a large reticle make it more skill because it means more shots are randomly spread thus lowering your time to kill? You are not shooting bullets the size of the reticle people.
But really, the BR isn’t also a difficult weapon to use, nor is it a good showcase of “skill”

Are you serious? Random spread makes something skill based? It’s not skill based bc the reticle is huge and if you are the least bit competent you can hold the reticle over your opponent very easily and kill them rather quickly. The perfect kill time and the average kill time are way too close. Successful Halo games have always rewarded skill.
Responding to your edit as well.
The BR is absolutely much more skill based and is not easy to shoot at all when someone is shooting back. That why pro players are usually so good. They have great aiming. I also do think the BR is too easy to use but compared to the AR its rocket science.

The thing is the BR is just as good up close where an AR should be good but you have the versatile range so why use the AR?
A burst fire mode that is forced on you is a very relaxed method of shooting, coupled with the power and generous magazine size, and it is a very easy weapon.
Really if you wanna showcase skill so much, yall would have flocked to the Carbine instead.
And you can hold your reticle on any enemy, it’s just a matter of what weapon does it better because it isn’t subject to randomness.
I actually think the tweaked DMR would be the most skill based starting weapon but again the BR gives players the ability to “outshoot” their opponents. That’s not happening with AR. Between 2 good AR battles become who sees who first. BR battles at least give a player who is seen first to skillfully strafe and shoot themselves out of that situation. Halo CE is the only game that really got this right as the average time to skill with the pistol was much higher than the perfect time to kill.

The CE pistol was a monster and it’s in it’s own category lol.
The DMR could be a skill showcase weapon due to it being single shot but it is also a high powered single shot, thus it has a lower rate of fire, and a lower rate of fire naturally helps out in accuracy as you got more time to land successful shots.
The Carbine is a rapid fire single shot that is weak, so you really need to land hits to come out on top, and missing is seriously crippling which is more common to happen due to the fire rate and fire mode of this weapon.
Accuracy is always key, I’ve seen videos of people losing in an AR vs AR fight despite shooting first, and being in reasonable range. H5 does have thrusters as well.

If you think the AR requires more skill than the BR you are absolutely delusional.

Technically yes, it is an inferior weapon compared to the BR, even at a close range.
Come at me.

That AR user must have been incompetent. This whole game just holds the players hand too much. The skill gap has gotten smaller with the release of every Halo game and it looks like H5 will continue the trend.

It’s not 100% wrong, but you can’t deny the power of the BR, it’s reliable accuracy and generous magazine capacity, burst fire mode for lax shooting and was capable of zooming. If you want to showcase your skill, pick up the Carbine.
Assault Rifle Starts only please. It makes the game way more fun. Vs Br starts where it becomes standoffs and strafing over and over all day long and no need for any other weapons. Bring back the AR starts only and forever. I believe this is the problem with Halo now and in the past when the playlists started to have BR starts. You have this group of hardcore no lifers who play nothing but halo begging for BR starts only They might as well ask for a game with one weapon BRs and call the game Halo Battle Rifles. So they can sit back in a group of 4 and shoot and strafe. Well I believe that it takes the fun out of what halo was meant to be. When Halo 3 first came out they had only AR starts it was awesome and all the weapons were being used then a few months later that they added BR starts and that is when the population started to decrease and it wasn’t as fun or balanced. The majority of gamers play games for fun. Please keep the fun by only having AR starts. I loved this beta at first but since the BR starts it has become stale and boring and not fun.

It was probably due to the decreased aim assist, which would be a good thing for you right? No hand holding there.
And why is a balanced sandbox of weapons hand holding or bad in any way?
Because a balanced sandbox doesn’t mean all the weapons are good. Balance should mean rewarding skill. Again the AR is ridiculously easy to use and much easier to use than the BR or any other precision weapon.
Now to the hand holding. Can’t strafe well? Press thruster. Can’t make those tough jumps? Press clamber? Can’t make that jumping headshot? Stabilizers to the rescue. Don’t know power weapon times? Don’t worry the announcer will call it out. Poor awareness and communication skills? No worries we have Spartan Chatter. Not great at aiming? Break out that AR with the massive reticle and hold down R.
