The AR used to be more powerful and had a longer clip. This role is now fulfilled by the new SAW. Why not just keep the AR beefy beast?
the SAW seems to burn away it’s clip faster than the SMG, which it seems to be the replacement for.
I hope to see more AR gameplay in the future, I really do, I wanna see how it stacks up.
Because assault rifle’s aren’t really made for suppression.
The AR is a primary weapon, the SAW is a pick-up.
Are you comparing the AR from reach to to halo: ce?
Reach may be a newer game but was before Halo: CE timewise thus probably the reaosn the clip/power is small/weak.
that’s what I’ve always thought. I want the AR from Halo: CE not the new one either
The AR looks powerful in Halo 4 I just hope they don’t nerf it
> The AR is a primary weapon, the SAW is a pick-up.
I know this, but still it seems the AR is weak, not only compared to the SAW, but to the other loadout weapons (btw. suppressor now confirmed a loadout weapon).
If there was no middle thing between AR and turret, the AR could be en-par the other loadout weapons AND it would be more like we remember it from the first game. (Those of us who do)
I hope the AR becomes a weapon worthy of any loadout, and not just the default bullet-hose.
> The AR is a primary weapon, the SAW is a pick-up.
I believe the SAW is only available through an ordinance drop. It may be have a high ROF, so it chews through it’s mag quick. And once you’re out? You’re out.

Actually, I am comparing the Halo 4 AR to the Halo CE AR.
I loved the AR in the first game, it was so powerful! Then, when it returned in Halo 3, It was gruesomely nerfed and sounded like a piece of cardboard mounted on a tricycle. So I was disappointed. (I was not the only one). Reach was slightly better but not quite there.

My point exactly. I would also like to state to the OP, that from the footage I’ve seen, the AR seems to kill faster than what it did back in both Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3.

Wait so you’ve used the final product AR in Halo 4 before?
Where are you getting the weak part from? If you referring to videos most of those kids fail with ARs.

What the HELL does that even mean?
Anyway, AR in Reach sounded the best, not including Halo 4’s AR which sounds incredibly deadly.
I hold hope for it, It’s going to be one of my main loadout weapons, along with the Promethean Suppressor.

Yes, it does kill faster, or as fast. BUT that is against crawlers, and so it falls short of comparison. Is there footage of anyone being taken out exclusively by the AR in matchmaking? I haven’t seen it used, and I assume this is because other weapons where better.
I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

Most of the videos shown have contained pro-players. They don’t like automatic weapons.
Watch this, there’s some swift AR kills there. I’ve seen many more than this, but I cba to scour the interwebz for you at this time.
p.s. You’ll have to compare the kill-time of this AR with the other ARs against unshielded targets mind you. Though judging from other videos I’ve seen where it was used during the full encounters, it looks much more powerful than it’s been previously.

Thanks, but aren’t they all damaged prior to being killed with AR?
