Every single match I play of Ininity Team Slayer (or whatever it’s called now) is nothing but DMRs and the occasional BR. If I try to use my AR as a primary weapon, I ALWAYS go negative. If I actually want to go positive with it, I have to hang around corners, camp, go guerrilla, etc. while everyone else just takes it easy with their DMR. Why the lack of weapon diversity? If you give people a choice to use whatever loadout weapon they want, then why are some of them so drastically less useful than others?
If you take a look at other shooters that have both close range SMG-like weapons and mid-long range rifles for starting weapons, you see a definite diversity. If you want people to even consider using automatic close range weapons in Team Slayer, then they need to hold their own and have a purpose. Right now, they don’t have a purpose other than being the backup for a precision loadout. It’s all essentially Slayer DMRs now.
The bottom line: The AR (and other automatic weapons) are great at close range, but the fact that everyone can start with mid-long range weapons negates close range combat and can kill you before you even get the chance to close in.
I don’t know about this…there are some maps that work great with the AR. Solace and the one with the big robot in the middle come to mind. Granted, the DMR beats it when outdoors, but the DMR beats everything outdoors.

Solace is terrible for ARs. It has very long sightlines. And Adrift is still very DMR-friendly, yet I see BRs mostly on it. Abandon is probably the best map for ARs, yet it still gets beaten pretty badly by precision weapons. It seems that even on the closest maps, people still find ways to camp at long range.
The AR does not need more “incentive” it’s as powerful as it needs to be. Frankly I think it’s a little too powerful. If there’s one thing that really pisses me off about this game is playing a team of 4 who don’t move from in a pack and all use assault rifle. You ever been team shot from an assault rifle. You kind of just die regardless of the range. Don’t even get me started on the SAW. If host has that gun he’s unstoppable.
The trick to ARs is simply keeping them on target and holding the trigger down. Even if the target doesn’t die, I’ve found it’s faster to switch to the handgun and finish them off then reload.
I honestly don’t use the other auto-rifles, for the accuracy problems you describe. Using the Storm Rifle is risky, and the Suppressor is about as accurate as a shotgun. The AR though, if kept on target, will kill quite well at mid-range. I’d peg its effective range at a bit less then the BR, though without the long range ability. Pairing the AR with a more accurate weapon is a must, a precesion weapon with firepower mod, or ye olde handgun.
The real trick to using an AR though, is play style. It’s very much a CQB weapon, mid-range is its max range. Sprint, jetpack, melee, grenades. Mobility and in your face explodie death. I might get my head shot off at long range, but you’d be suprised how many wanna-be “l33t headsh0t mastarz” get their faces chewed off when someone doesn’t play their game.
I use Assualt Rifles. On Haven, on Solace, on bloody Raganrok, and I get more kills then deaths.
> idk, i’ve gotten some really good sprees with the AR, but you are right, DMR and BR dominate
precision weapons have always dominated. And thats simply because they can fill more roles then an automatic. The automatics are much stronger in this game allowing them to be good in their one role unlike in the past.

I don’t know what you’re talking about, because I never see anyone but me using an AR each match. Maybe it’s my trueskill. People I play against are never using automatic weapons.
And to all of you, I wish I could be playing the kind of games that you are, but I’m not.
EDIT: Also, the SAW usually gets outgunned by DMRs in its own range. If not, you’ll escape with no shields.
