I’ve noticed that the AR is stupidly good at range, I find myself getting shredded across the map by it, and I can do the same by tapping the trigger instead of holding it down. I’m also sure it does extra precision damage which is just, WHYYYY!? Idk, I love that the AR is actually usable but it can compete with the commando, and that just doesn’t sit right with me
From my experience while I agree it is powerful if you’re up against somebody who can aim the commando decently you barely stand a chance at range, I quite like having the AR being viable for once.
I think that the AR has to compete against the sidekick, which is why it can shred at more distance than say halo 3.
I like the AR as it is now. Controlled bursts will give you some more range but at medium to long ranges any precision weapon is better especially with headshots.
I don’t agree about any precision weapon being better, BR can compete as the aim assist unzoomed seems decently higher than the rest of the weapon roster. But take Bazaar, only when shooting diagonally across the longest sight lines does Commando clearly win (on controller). Simply by having AR descope and removing headshot bonus it would radically alter how it’s playing right now without removing its niche. I like that it can zoom, I also like that the cone of spread is more narrow when zoomed as it adds a skill, it just needs to be able to be punished like any other Halo zoom weapon.
The AR felt strong when the Spartan bots used it but fine in PVP for me.
Maybe it’s for personal tastes, but I notice the Commando a lot less OP than I was using it against bots.

I agree with this 100%. Remove the headshot modifier and let it be descoped and the weapon is much more balanced. I also think that they should alter how zooming in alters the red reticle range. It’s possible that descope will fix this issue as well, but right now it feels fine in its role and overpowered outside of that. People should want to pick up the Commando and BR and, for my group of friends at least, it feels like there’s very little reason to.
The AR is still ooe of the weakest weapons. Don’t wanna get killed by it? Move smarter on the map and stop running out in the open so much. Everyone has it so y’all think the AR is the problem when you die; need to start looking inward lol.

No the AR in this game has the same killtime as the BR at mid-long range, this is also considering the BR is precise and getting a perfect kill and the AR is essentially random in where it lands. Because of the skill requirement of the BR hitting perfect kill time is unlikely, whereas hitting the general kill time of the AR is common. See
