I hope the AR is a very effective weapon. Not because ill be using it…im more of a BR guy but i hate to see the halo signiture weapon disappear now thanks to loadouts. I hope its a gun that alot of casual players run to or a the pros utilise it with the firepower perk. Who loves the AR?
I LOVE THE AR.
I hope 343 made it a beast.
According to a video, the AR is actually pretty decent in close range now.

Thanks for the AR love because I will definitely make use of it more often than not… along with the BR…
Ahh :’) glad to see the support! Seriously guys i just want Halo 4 to be like Halo 3 in the sense that EVERY weapon is a beast if you know how to use it. And the AR is just a beautiful gun.
> According to a video, the AR is actually pretty decent in close range now.
My only concern was that the precision weapons would be more effective at close range than the AR, but from the gameplay I have seen it looks perfect. AR dominates at close range while the BR, DMR, and LR dominate at mid-long range. The only precision weapon that should be effective at close range should be the BR but not as effective as the AR
hopefully it won’t be over-ranged like H3’s AR.
> hopefully it won’t be over-ranged like H3’s AR.
Tbh i didnt mind the H3 AR because it was easily counterable with a BR. It made those one on one battles interesting. If you saw a rushing AR, youd automatically know not to get close.
This brings me to bleedthrough…thank god its back!
> hopefully it won’t be over-ranged like H3’s AR.
Actually I’d say it needs to be over-ranged to stand a chance against the precision weapons which everyone will use.
I’ve always liked the AR but I think I’ll be sticking with the BR, of course certain game types I’ll be using the AR

My exact point. Thank you sir! Every gun needs to be the best at something. I wanna be restricted from acting in a certain way when I approach a hostile depending on what theyrr carrying. It seems 343i had this goal in mind too…hopefully.

I agree!!
Considering the fact that
-
Players who have played with AR are pleasantly surprised by its effectiveness;
-
Slayer pro only offers 3 loadouts, and AR is one of them in addition to fan favorite BR and DMR. This implies that they must have gone extra mile to balance these 3 weapons
-
H4 is trying to win the more competitive crowd of the newer generation FPS players (who were babies when Halo CE came out) that grew up on CoD (and a bit tired of it). CoD has a very heavy emphasis on automatic vs. semi auto, and AR can serve as a bridge to get them transition over (it will take a similar role as SMGs in CoD)
I am confident that AR is going to be a weapon that needs to be taken seriously in H4, as it adds a strategic variation into the semi-auto dominant game play: switch to AR and work with your teammates closely to catch your opponents off guard, pick up the semi-auto from the falling foes, and add dimensions to your game play!
lol waypoint guy is my hero.
And AR being in Slayer pro means nothing, it wont get used.

It is definitely not going to be used primarily by any players. But having it in the line up gives you the option to occasionally switch to it and surprise your opponents. You do need to work with your teammates closely to be effective at this strategy, and always pick up the BR/DMR to replace your magnum at the first chance.
They wouldn’t have included it unless it is useful in certain situations.

No half decent team will base a strategy around an AR. Franklin said players would in the video with Bravo…dont quite think he realises that they wont. It will soon get replaced with the carbine.
The problem with the AR, since about Halo 3, is that it has nothing to compensate for it’s weaknesses. The Rocket Launcher compensates for its power by having a low ammo supply. The Sniper Rifle demands better hand-eye coordination than other weapons. The shotgun has strength and a big clip, but it makes up for this because it’s only effective at close-range.
There is no good reason to use an AR. It’s not as accurate as the pistol. It’s not as strong as the DMR. And its’ clip-size is too small for a weapon that weak and unstable. It doesn’t even have a situational purpose like the Plasma Pistol, and it doesn’t eat through shields like the Plasma Rifle variants. It doesn’t even have a scope, like the SMG in Halo 3: ODST!
Any weapon in a FPS, where you absolutely have to use grenades AND a melee attack(sometimes 2) just to stand a chance is a pointless waste of code.

Non-UNSC weapons have very little chance to be included in the Slayer pro. As Franklin stated in the video: this playlist is UNSC focused.
I think that you are basing your predictions on
-
impressions of past AR (unless you have already played with it?);
-
Preference of top Halo players (like top 20%)
-
Preference of veteran Halo players
However, keep in mind that if H4 turns out to be as successful as we would like it to be, the population could grow multitudes bigger. In lower level of play (say bottom 50-60%, more than half of the entire population), the buffed AR could be quite effective.
It really depends on how popular the “Slayer pro” playlist is going to be. If only top veteran players play it, then yes, I think that your prediction will be correct. However, at this point we just don’t know.
Lol, I’ve always hated the AR. It’s really ugly imo and I always threw it away in Halo 3 for spikers or anything that is not a magnum.
It has always felt really weak and back in the day when I didn’t know much of Halo (killtimes and balance and stuff) and just played the game I always thought certain weapons are always more powerful than others (not counting power weapons) and that th AR was just a starters weapon and you should get rid of it as soon as possible.
Suppressor FTW!!!

You just made me sad… Well, here is to hoping that 343i made enough tweaks to make the AR worthwhile… Cheers…
