AR help?

Any constructive advice on how to improve my AR?

NEVER been good with it.

Yeah. Switch to a BR, DMR, Carbine, or Lightrifle.

Well , you should burst fire , that will make you more acurate , use it on king of the hill or regicide , its a really good weapon , but only for Close Quarters

Thanks, but I already use those 4.

Try and get strafing down. As soon as you can master the lost art of walking sideways, you become unstoppable. Well, a little harder to kill at least.

What kind of tempo on a burst? Seems like I get killed with the spray and pray a lot.

When using an automatic, you just have to play to its strengths. Don’t even bother trying to engage people outside of close range. Run to cover or better yet, just don’t be seen.

When I use an automatic I generally play a lot more sneaky, crouching and sneaking around to ambush an opponent, or at least get close to them. If you can get within close range you will make short work of anyone using a precision weapon. Just have to keep in mind that if they DO see you coming, there are many precision weapon users that keep a boltshot as a secondary weapon. :\

There is not much to say: Just choose your fights appropriately within the limits/range of the AR. Also strafe back and forth while fighting rather than running forward. Crouching once during a one on one fight often causes the other players to miss as long as it is timed correctly. AR + Melee always works well.

AR = Good ambush weapon.

It’s actually an extremely useful weapon. I use it as my secondary weapon with BR as a primary. If an enemy is close to you it is often tactically advantageous to you to switch to the AR. However, you want to do a lot of strafing and jumping around to pull off the kill without the opponent also picking up the kill. You also want a good judge on if you should go in for the beat down after shooting. Most of the time it shouldn’t be necessary if you get all your shots to hit with the AR. Often times if you go in for the beat down thats the last ditch effort and you end up either trading kills or are left without shields.

Strangely, I’ve not tried to strafe with it like I do with a BR.

Okay, so more strafing. Do you burst fire?

I burst fire.

Not even a controlled burst, i just spam the trigger actually.

I kill someone in mid range with about half the clip.

I usually don’t because I tend not to use it anywhere but close range where all the shots will hit.

ar aka mini saw tips.

don’t engage at dmr distance wait for br. hold trigger, rinse, repeat.

I usually have to make a class just for the AR. I typically use Active Camo or a jet pack as an armor ability. The perks aren’t as important, but I might put explosives or Armor Efficiency on. Quite often I will use firepower and have the Br as my primary and an AR as the secondary. But for play style, stay close to your teammates and flank the enemy team with the jet pack or camo. if your teammates are shooting them with their dmr or BR and you take the shields off with your AR then it’s easy to win. This also works with the Suppressor. But I usually play infinity slayer. That’s just my two cents.

Thanks to all of you - it’s all very helpful! Appreciate it.

One other question - center mass or for the brainpan? I’m guessing brainpan, because from looking at film I tend to aim there versus aiming for the 'noggin like I normally do with a BR/etc.

As the big green souped up man said ‘Controlled bursts, don’t spray and pray’!!! :-))

In halo never aim for the head, instead aim at teh triangle made up of the 2 elbows and neck, this ensures more of your shots land since more of the body is filling the reticle.

Aiming for the head only really matters witch precision weapons, and even then only when shields are down.

Not sure if there is a no shield health bonus on the AR though, go into forge really fast and find out for yourself

Pick your battles bro.

Indeed. Given my track record, I think I should pick fewer!
