I don’t know how many know this but a month ago, I discovered the most godly amazing thing in the history of me discovering things: You can headshot with ARs!
I’m pretty sure every ranged weapon is capable of headshots in Halo 5, actually.
With automatics like the Assault Rifle, they just do increased damage compared to standard hits.
Personally, I think it’s a feature that shouldn’t come back for future games, at least when it comes to normal PvP. With AI enemies as sponge-y as the Warden Eternal and Promethean Soldiers, though, it’s kind of a necessity for PvE.
You can even deliever headshots with a railgun.
It even makes the “plopp” sound of an headshot.

It certainly surprised me the first time, especially since the Railgun is an anti-vehicle weapon. I took a peek at your weapon statistics and you’ve racked up 56 headshots with the Railgun so far.

it was in the weapon tuning update, i’m pretty sure mostly everyone heard about it lol
Try the AR with the laser target - headshot galore.

Bonus headshot damage for the AR has been in Halo 5 since launch, but the tuning update reduced it’s spread to make it more accurate, and buffed the headshot damage up 4x from it’s original damage perimeters to accommodate for it’s nerf towards standard body shots.
Well Halo has had Automatic weapons have headshot multipliers before on some weapon (CE Magnum, CE Plasma Rifle, Possibly H1 AR on Xbox and the Needle Rifle)
The BR is technically between the two as it’s a burst weapon.

Eh, that would really make the weapons feel inconsistent. Not to mention the fact that the default bodyshot TTK of the AR as it is right now is well the lowest of all the Automatics at close range. And how would they stand a chance against all the instant kill combos with precision weapons? Plus doesn’t this give them an incentive to aim better and control your fire rate at longer distances?
If 343 felt that there could be no skill in using these weapons, then they wouldn’t bother giving them the extra damage on weak points headshots.

Yes
if you ever play campaign, or played a custom game while testing weapons or found an AFC player, Fire the AR at their head. You will see a red hitmarker and kill the target much quicker than shooting the body.
previously the AR killed in 12 bullets (9 shield 3 headshots) to 15 total bodyshots. Now it takes 13 bullets (11.5 shield, 1.5 headshots) to a very high 20 bodyshots.

It is possible but its not what I aim for in CQC with an AR.

I feel it is most noticeable in infection the AR is basically a automatic precision weapon now. It’s 2 or 3 shots to head which is ridiculously OP especially on maps like riptide where dead rounds are bad enough as it is. I think it needs to have a headshot bonus but not like that maybe nerf it a little bit to help with all game modes

They don’t. Precision weapons are designed to reward precise, accurate aim at almost any range. Automatic weapons are designed to suppress at long range and take enemies apart at closer ranges due to their high rate of fire. You counter quick-kill combos by moving smartly, not with weapon choice.

Maybe. But if you’re using an automatic at long range, I’m thinking you should reconsider what weapons you carry into a gunfight.

I’m not going to deny that there’s skill involved in automatics. But I fail to see why headshot bonuses on weapons with the ability to deliver an incredibly forgiving and suppressive amounts of fire is a necessity.
