I just run around looking for combat, I never wait for the enemy because I’m not one of those players who’s afraid to die. Mobility is what I love in a game and Halo reach was when I first fell in love with halo. Sprint was the only armor ability I ever used (evade in invasion) because I could run straight into a fight. Meeting combat was my favorite thing in halo. Halo 4, with sprint being compulsory, I could play around I little more. Often being a deceiver by using hologram on the small/medium maps, showing me the location of campers, then as they start to reload after realizing that was a hologram I jump in and slaughter not with an AR, but a storm rifle.
Halo 5. Thrusters, sprint, clamber. All this mobility has giving me joy, with so many halo players not being used to this type of movement, I feel like I have some weird unknown advantage (Have you heard of Armored Core For Answer? I was really good with the thrusters on that game, avoiding damage and keeping my distance for guns or getting close enough for the laser blades)
They AR. Now, that I’m not sure about. In Halo CE it was useless as everyone used the pistol, you needed to be incredibly close and avoid the three hit kill which is hard when when four individuals are shooting at you from a multitude of ranges. But it you could the shield down you had a nearly guaranteed kill. Halo 3 it required exactly half the mag to kill a fully shielded opponent but with the reticle you again had to be really close for a guaranteed kill, which it shouldn’t as that was what the SMG is meant to be for. Half the time there was no point keeping the AR as everyone used the BR and slaughtered players who didn’t have one. Halo reach 19 instead of 16, had reticle bloom which allowed the AR to be used at slightly longer ranges, giving it more of a chance. But a skilled player could take one down with the DMR or if they’re lucky and spray with the magnum the’yll win as well. Halo 4 half a mag required to kill. But since you could choose what to start with not many people actually used it as the BR was the favorite, to which an AR would lose against 9/10, and even if it was close range against the AR would lose to the other two automatics. (I did a 3v1 with some buddies and the map was skyline, used a suppressor and they used everything, camo, AR, BR, DMR, autosentry, they spammed with grenades but because I just moved so quickly they couldn’t get decent hits. Won 30 to 12)
Now, the Halo 5 Ar, it doesn’t feel more powerful but it does feel a little more accurate and with smart scope the range increases. it is still a beta and things could change but for now I’ve often found having minimum one teammate with you, if they’re not following you, you follow them. I play with my friends and because I run in like a -Yoink!- they’re often following me, because I have their support I usually gain the kill and the most kills overall of the match but I also get the most deaths because of my playstyle.
In fact that playstyle got me an extermination, because i died I spawned somewhat behind the enemy as the were running towards the indoor sniper spawn, they killed I think all my teammates (I’ll have to check) I assassinated one, threw a grenade which took down one guys shield, nearly took down another and finished one off, the third kill I whipped out the magnum (thinking the shields were down on the guy I was aiming at) Fired like crazy took down his shields and claimed a headshot, last guy tried to shoulder charge me, I thrusted backwards went back to the AR and killed him since he already had no shields.
For now, lets just be thankful the AR can’t headshot, And I would recommend keeping your distance if you like to use the BR or DMR since if you hit them they lose the smart scope, can’t get as close with the BR as you used to be able to. And grenades don’t bounce up as much in this game so you’ll need to figure out wall and ceiling bounces and again, trail an ally or ask a friend to trail you.
No one’s perfect first time, stuff can take time to get used to
