I’m interested to know if 343 is going to buff the AR for Halo 4. I’ve been hunting for any information regarding this, but haven’t really had any luck. I’d love to see some gameplay footage of the AR in multiplayer matches that is long enough to get a feel for the damage output of the gun in a typical encounter. Can anyone share any information or videos to help me get a feel for the new AR balance? I’d really appreciate it, thanks!
Update: Found a great example of the AR balance!
Head to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBBv5YS9084, and start watching at the 41 minute mark. Especially at the 41:50 mark is a perfect showing of the AR damage output at a short-medium range. Looks like it definitely got buffed to me!
there is some videos posted by mlg on the front page that have gameplay with the ar in mm. but they said it is not as strong as it used to be.

Where is the video exactly? Sorry, I’m having trouble finding it.
There are tons of videos bud. Head to YouTube type in RTX Halo 4.
The AR looks super strong though. I’m pleased.
AR actualy has been buffed but its not that great long range it mostly close to mid range still like old but its way more effective. ive seen this posted in alot of topics
I played the game at rtx and I used the storm rifle most of the game. It was really powerful and I imagine anybody that uses it will treat it like a shotgun.
I also picked up an AR off of a dead body and it too was powerful. WAY better than reach’s or 3’s AR. It doesn’t kill quite as fast and doesn’t have as much ammo as the storm rifle but it has longer range and is more accurate when burst fired.
It will definitely be a viable weapon in Halo 4 but you’ll have to play with it like its a shotgun from the previous Halo games. You can support your teammates at midrange combat but you do not want to be out in the open against a precision weapon.
There are 4 ranges in this game. Long (sniper), mid (dmr/br), close (barely outside of melee range), and point blank (melee range).
The AR and storm rifle function best at close range. It can outgun a shotgun between close-mid range and can outgun a precision weapon at close-point blank range. I’d stay out of point blank range though unless you get the jump on your enemy because you don’t want them meleeing you and knocking out your shields before they die.
That’s my opinion. And this is coming from someone who thought the AR in 3 and Reach sucked and didn’t have a niche.

Okay cool, good to hear. I’ve been able to find lots of great MM videos, but even after watching a couple of hours of different ones, I can’t actually find a spartan shooting an AR at another spartan! It’s all BR action. If anyone is nice enough to point me to a specific video that has some extensive AR action, I would really, really appreciate it. But definitely thanks for letting me know the word is that it’s been buff some.

Awesome, thanks so much for your first-hand impressions!
From what I’ve seen it looks alot stronger. Watching someone mid-range two guys in one clip is refreshing.
To be honest, everyone is taking the stuff Bravo says way too seriously.
We watched him use the Storm Rifle once, get triple teamed, then say it was the weapon’s fault he died. And when he was telling the guy not to use the AR, the guy actually got like 3-4 more kills with it before he died.
I honestly think Bravo just uses the fact that the AR and PR sucked in Halo 3 and Reach as an excuse not to even try the AR and SR in Halo 4.

Ive heard the opposite. A lot of people are saying that the AR is more powerful than past halos
