API Hackathon - The Final Week!

As we enter the final week of the Halo API Hackathon Contest, we wanted to give everyone a reminder that all entries must be submitted by next week at 11:59 p.m. PT on May 31, 2016. After being submitted, our panel of judges will convene in order to evaluate and select the top three winners.

To submit your entry to the Halo API contest, you need to create a new thread in this section of the Halo Waypoint forum and email 343PubApisHackathon@microsoft.com with the following information:

Feel free to leave any questions you might have in this thread and we’ll do our best to answer them! We’re all extremely excited to see what you’ve been building over the past few weeks!

See full Official Rules for details.

7 Days!

Counting the forum posts… really only 4 entries so far? Guessing there will be a lot of late night hacking on the 30th

I thought there’d been a couple more than that.

I’ll hopefully have mine “finished” in a couple of days

I’ve not built a website before, so that’ll leave me with a few days to fix the inevitable issues.

I wasn’t able to work on the update for my app Reclaimer Stats that I’ll submit for the contest until a week ago because of finals and whatnot so I’m pretty stressed. But I’m grinding it out and hopefully I’ll have it done by Friday. Still super excited though

Question:
Are we able to apply for a rate limit adjustment before the submissions are live/submitted? My site is up and running (with restricted access until submission), but wish to make sure the rate limit is reasonable for when it becomes public/goes into judging.

Looking forward to seeing everyone’s submissions

Hey Mattster092,

Yes, you may apply for a higher rate limit independently from a hackathon submission.
However, having a higher rate limit is not a requirement for the hackathon.

Hope this helps,
Spartancat and the API team

Good to know! Thanks SpartanCat (and all of the folks on the API team)!

Getting down to the wire! I know I’ll be submitting my entry most likely Monday, got to do that last minute feature creep =]

I’ve seen your work. Why don’t you take the weekend off, relax a little. Please.

Hoping that I’ll get some beta testers to help me out, there’s a lot of things that can go wrong when you’re making assumptions from a vague list of events. But I’m getting close…

No time to rest!
I’m actually not going to be coding that much this weekend, I’m doing some IRL things so you’re getting your wish… kinda :stuck_out_tongue:

Quick question for the API Team: Will API Limit requests be actioned before the end of the Hackathon? I’ve been holding off changing my App to “Ready for Sale” and submitting to ensure users don’t receive any API Limit errors. Would be greatly appreciated!

I was wondering, as this is a “Hackathon”, will the judges take into account parts of submissions that were live before the hackathon was announced?

Many of the submissions are new features/functionality built on top of existing websites/apps, whereas others have been built from scratch since the hackathon was announced.

For example, HaloTracker.com has been around since October, could they enter and would only their new features be judged in the competition?

Cheers and good luck to everyone that has/is submitting their work.

I’d like to know this too!

I rather stupidly submitted my request on Sunday and didn’t realise it was a bank holiday, hopefully they respond today.

Good point, Seph, I was wondering about that, as well. Further, how are the judges going to know about any changes/tweaks/updates that get put into production after the deadline tonight at midnight PST? We weren’t asked to submit source code so, it seems like the judging period will either have to be very rapid or entrants will have to be honest about honoring the deadline.

Most of the entries are very exciting though- I am glad to see there were quite a few different ways to play with the same data!

One minute left! Who’s coming in clutch?
