I really would like to see proximity chat back in Halo. I guess 343i didn’t see a need since people have migrated to party chat, but there’s a whole new element with proximity chat enabled. You can hear the enemy, and they can hear you, that sort of intel you have to take into factor: are they giving away their position? possibly bluffing trying to get into my head?. Plus, you just can’t beat teabagging someone and talking s*** while they have to sit there seeing and hearing you.
Dug through a pile of my old Halo VCR (that’s right, VCR) tapes to make a video dedicated to proximity chat, to maybe show you younger Halo player what you were missing. :sigh: So nostalgic! Click here to watch (warning: language NSFW)
I kinda miss proximity chat, it was a pretty cool aspect. Also vcr? Damn Steve your old.
My device has no sound (headphone jack got stuck in the port) so can someone explain to me what it is?

just saw it! #3? noice.
Nah, it would just change the game and all strategies too much.
Would breed too many haters, myself included lol…
please no. proximity chat got tons of peoples accounts muted in halo reach, including two of my own. because of proximity chat any competitive teams would mute the opposing team before every match that way the other team wouldnt hear them in game. and after you get muted by several hundred people your account would get muted by microsoft. this happened even if you werent saying anything bad ever

y’know, I wonder back then during the H2/H3 days of MLG if pro teams muted each other because of proximity chat. Although not sure how much it mattered when they were 5 feet away from each other talking trash. LOL

For one thing what your talking about is game chat not proximity chat. The proximity chat was only in Halo 2 classic on the original Xbox.
But as far as proximity chat goes this could be super sweet to have back in Halo. But the only way it could work if the party chat is disabled. So that makes people have to use game chat which I’m all for. But I think it would be cool if it went through a radio frequency like in the campaign.

wasn’t it also in Halo 3? I think it was in Reach, but I don’t remember it being, even though I had like 500+ hours invested in Reach. LOL.
Yes, but it won’t. Xbox and Halo are both too kid friendly now.
Proximity chat was the best damn thing in Halo 3 big team, I loved it, I think it’d be a great feature that’d entice some people to return to game chat.

In Halo 3 you had to press a button to talk. Anything over 4 players on a team you had to do this. But after all the complaining from the forum. Bungie came out with a update and made 16 players so it ended the button = talk saga.

Just would be noice if it was an option, there’s still proximity chat (that you can turn on/off) in games out now like Elder Scrolls Online

Um. The reason why proximity chat probably wont come back is because game chat is barely a thing anymore (along with the reasons stated by Firegoku, it’s just hard to implement properly in). But the reasons for lack of game chat is is party chat which most people seem to use to avoid conversations that are the complete opposite of “kid friendly”
