Anyone sticking with the Classic Playlist?

I understand 343 is implementing a bunch of new features. I’m fine with that. This is not a rage thread about how AAs and ord drops are killing Halo. There is a classic playlist so I could care less about the new gimmicks and am happy for 343 that a lot of people are receiving the changes with great entusiasm. I just want to hear from some of the other players that are looking forward to a more old-school Halo MP experience.

This is not a “this vs. that” or “us vs. them” thread so please don’t treat it like one.

Thanks!

I’ll try the new features but I might end up playing classic when/if I get gold

what about you ?

Certainly not.

If I wanted to play classic i would play Halo 3.

No, what I want to play is Halo 4.

I don’t know. I want something new, but something new that works. Guess I’ll do a bit of both.

It’s funny when people say that H3 is classic, puts a grin on my face.

Hell no. If I wanted a classic experience that did the old forms justice I could just play Halo 2, 3, or the classic playlists in Reach. I don’t because the old forms suck. The distance is there that they suffer an unflattering comparison with the Unreal Tournament games and by just the more modern standards Section 8 set old Halo multiplayer is clunky, broken, and in every way a rusted-out Studebaker of a game sitting in a forgotten field of outdated conventions.

Give me the new stuff and I might just start playing Halo multiplayer again.

I think no matter what playlist you are playing Halo 4 will be completely different from Halo 3. Just like 2 was different from CE and 3 was different from 2. If I’m wrong then that would mean 343 could only make Halo 4 different by adding all the aa’s, perks, ord drops and whatnot–and I just don’t believe that. 343 doesn’t seem incompetent enough for that.

Lol, well written post. If you don’t write poetry you might want to consider it.

A lot of that went over my head. I’m just a guy that plays video games and drinks beer. But I know what I like!

I don’t know yet. Seems a bit premature to make a commitment like this. How about I play a few games of Halo 4 in various playlists and get a feel for it? And if I find that playing anything other than Classic causes me physical harm or immense displeasure, I’ll stick to Classic. Seems unlikely, but it’s possible.

Hmmmm… How sure are we there is going to be a classic playlist?

Yeah. I had fun with the AA’s in reach but it got old after a while (for me personally). That’s the only reason I came to this conclusion. Who knows, maybe I’ll like all the new stuff in H4, but right now I’m feeling like it’s more likely I’ll want to do classic.

And more power to you (and thanks for the comment, though I’m more of a short story man myself.) Personally though I’ve just been playing Halo for so long that it’s drifted into the background of my gaming identity. The love for it is there but given what else I’ve played and loved more in the past few years (Section 8, Space Marine, Rainbow Six Vegas) Halo isn’t going to be the same for me even if what we get is a classic game in one way or another.

That’s why I’m in love with the campaign right now because it’s a fresh take on Halo-style narrative (characters, woo!) Spartan Ops is even more exciting. But multiplayer is still ideologically the same. It’ll take all the new features, weapons, and mechanics that 343 can come up with for me to pay any attention to it.

I am also curious about this. Anyone have a link to a direct quote from 343. (Not saying there isn’t just want to see what was said. I may have read it and forgotten as well.)

Nothing beats the thrill of winning a game 50-49

I’ll play classic and a new version. See how they compare to each other.

I don’t want a classic playlist but I do want playlists with fixed/no loadouts and no perks.

I’d probably really be into a classic playlist if it wasn’t full of full teaming tryhards. Now don’t take that word tryhard to heart as I’m not specifically calling anyone in particular a tryhard. I just can’t stand that I can’t get an even match in the Reach classic playlist. It’s always me and 3 randoms versus a full team of hardcore players.

Either way I will be openly accepting change this time around and trying to enjoy the whole weapon unlocking and all that jazz that people are getting upset over.

Yes. I will also give Infinity Slayer a few goes.

I’ll do what I do with Anniversary slayer on Reach, I play Reach for Reach but I always have those Halo CE moments, when I feel like playing classic I will play classic, when I feel like playing Infinity Slayer I will

I could get behind this.

Nah. I’ll probably try it once or twice, but I’m buying Halo 4 for Halo 4’s gameplay, not Halo CE, 2 and 3’s. If I wanted to play those games I’d play them.
