Remember prior to the launch of MCC, Mike Colter went on record to say “Once Halo: The Master Chief Collection is released, and then Halo 5 comes out shortly thereafter, you’re basically going to be playing a game with me as the primary character”? The community raged, and 343 quickly took to forums to dispel this as untrue, and assured us that Chief was the main hero and the main focus of the game.
The issue is, that’s not really true. Sure, his story and relationship with Cortana is what drives the plot of the game, but in no way can you say that Chief or Blue Team are the main characters of this game. Hell, if you hadn’t read the books, you’d have no -Yoinking!- clue who Blue Team is. In fact, I’m not even sure who the main character is in this game, because there is little to no character development whatsoever for anyone, especially Locke. But aside from that fact, 80% of the game is played from the perspective of Locke and Osiris.
I want to trust 343. I want to support what they do. Hell, I even love Halo 5’s multiplayer (not so much the campaign). But why can’t they just be forthcoming with information? Why does everything have to be shrouded in secrecy and deception? They knew that if they would have told us that Locke was the main character and that you would hardly play as Chief, that the community would be pissed off, so why even do it in the first place?
remember when this post didn’t matter? beating a dead horse doesn’t make it any more dead
343i lies? Wow, how shocking! They’ve never ever lied to us before! Ever!
Oh wait…
Personally, I was rather disappointed that we barely got to play as Blue Team in the campaign. To me, the main Halo games have always been about the Chief, and to have a game that was hyped to be all about him only have him playable for 3 levels was kind of a slap in the face. But I did manage to enjoy it nonetheless. However, I believe that they should start to be a bit more honest with their fans, and, you know, find a Lead Writer that isn’t terrible.

No but some people might want answers from the person who killed the horse, Frankie, who is being conspicuously silent

Y’wanna talk about being disappointed about not being able to play as Blue Team in Halo 5? Try getting excited about Halo Reach and following the events in Chief’s footsteps - only to be forced to play it from some incompetent hack of a squad that all died in the end anyway with the most melodramatic pish of a story.
I don’t care who I play as, as long as the gameplay is enjoyable. Nothing changes when I’m shooting grunts as Locke to shooting Grunts as the Chief. It’s really the same experience with a different skin.

This is really all that I ask. I mean, there’s really no way that they didn’t know the state of MCC prior to launch. I could go on and on about how they have mislead the community on so many things. I just want them to be forthcoming and honest. The whole fiasco with the number of maps we were getting at launch was a bit of a botch-job as well, not to mention the fact that they were completely silent about no campaign theater until the game launched, even though many people were asking for information on this.
They can start by answering a few questions, including whether or not we are getting a custom games browser at some point with Forge? Considering they’ve said absolutely nothing about it and refuse to answer that question indicates we’re probably not getting it but they’re too afraid to just come out and say it.

Lol yep…Bungie REALLY wanted a game where they could kill the hero because #cooldark&edgy
Btw…Kat’s death still makes ZERO sense

This was something of a flaw tbh, it’s a little bit strange that a veteran Spartan II and a new Spartan IV have exactly the same abilities, despite different armor and augmentations
I would have liked the Locke missions to “feel” different from the Chief missions
and for the campaign to be evenly split between them

maybe because I am not a lore nerd. (I mean this is the least offensive way possible) but reach was the most enjoyable and well written story I have experienced out of all of the games. the fact that it wasn’t about chief didn’t make it anyless halo to me.

So basically write a piss poor story because all we care about is pew pew?
Not really my cup of tea, thanks.
Remember when the Guardian was tearing apart Earth in the trailers, how Chief was ignoring people as he ran from the Guardian, remember how they announced Chief was dead pubically but behind the scenes where hunting him, remember how Locke accused Chief of being a traitor and was going to kill him, and in the opposite version Chief blamed Locke for letting whatever happened happen?
When is THAT game releasing? Whats this stupid fanfic game that released last week?

YES! REACH should have been freakin BLUE TEAM’s story…I was so excited for Reach and then it came out and I’m sitting there going…“wtf? Wheres Fred, Kelly and everyone else? who the hell are these guys?”
God forbid they change things up a bit.

I agree with you. I loved Reach, and I didn’t feel like it needed Chief so to speak (even though the easter egg on the pillar of autumn was awesome).
That being said, it wasn’t a CORE Halo game with Chief on the cover. They didn’t give -Yoink- teases about playing as Chief and Blue team throughout Reach, only to let you play for them for 20% of the game and never even explore any of the characters.
But I digress. I don’t care that we play as Locke. I just ask that 343 be a little more forthcoming about their intentions with Halo. If you want to expand on Halo without Chief, just do it. But tell us your intentions and don’t mislead us for the sake of selling a game.

Really disappointing, isn’t it? They had such great lore (books) to pull from, and they ended up with whatever Reach was.
At least Forge was better than Halo 3’s.
As far as Kat’s death, the nuclear detonation/bomb/glassing (whatever happened to cause the building to start falling) temporarily disabled her shields, I guess. It’s such a stretch and just massively reaching for an explanation as to why she was unshielded at the time, however.
They just did that to get our money and it worked. People believed that we wont play as chief most of the time , people got upset, so they white lied to us saying it’s ok chief is still the main character but forgot to mention you will hardly play as him durning the game. Typical 343i.

Then how was the elevator working? Selective EMP?

My point exactly.
