I saw it for a free download the other day so of course I downloaded it! Playing it for the first time in a long time was nostalgic and great, and I felt more “in” to the game than Halo 4.
However I still play both games. I always play a couple rounds of Halo 3 first, then I play Halo 4. I noticed that playing Halo 3 drastically improved my aim and tactics (and I also noticed how poor my aim and tactics had become when I played my first game of Halo 3).
I still think Hit Scan sucks and the auto aim and bullet magnetism is way too high in Halo 4. it is much harder hit an enemy in Halo 3, and there is a much bigger skill gap.
Also, the numbers next to your gamertag is a lot of motivation to rank up. It may not mean to other people, but the rank next to the gamertag in Halo 3 meant a lot to me, and with out it, Halo reach aand Halo 4 wasn’t as fun.
You make a valid point OP. I mentioned several times that Halo 4 made me weak, and playing 3 again, getting my assets kicked time and time again…but loving the game all the same. I learn my enemies tactics but too late each match…but I learn, and learn again, and learn to stay in social slayer, because my precious 13 in team slayer from 4.5 years ago is too much to lose, LOL!
But you gave me an idea: I have the free version downloaded, because I lost my ODST Mythic disc, and paid for the Mythic II map pack (had all the other ones already). I can pop in my Halo 4 disc, play a bunch of Halo 3 from the hard drive, and then see how I do in 4…should be interesting

My ranks in all ranked playlists used to all be 40+. Now I’m having trouble in just rank 20 in most playlists. How the skill has degraded! But now that I’ve been getting better at H3 it is making me much better in H4 as well!

I’ll gladly teach you anything skill-related when it comes to Halo 3 if you want to, as I am a level 50.

It’s not really anything tactics related, but mostly that my aim is a lot more off because it’s a lot easier to aim in HR and H4. Also in H3 you had to lead your shots.
