anyone miss the old grunts

I want to know peoples opinion on this, why did Bungie get rid of the grunts voice. I used to love their little shrieks of fear, and they rid us of it. I only know of the one that sleep talks and says “how come I dream in english?” Anyone want to support me on this? Does anyone think that the grunts voice actor died?

I thought you were going to rail on reach’s grunt design and I was ready to rebuke you saying the design is amazing in reach but I ABSOLUTELY agree with you. I loved the grunts little comedic lines and they are my favorite species in the franchise.

however the grunts can speak english in reach
^ cool little easter egg

I loved their design, I never had a problem with how they look, as long as they’re small and adorable little fear-filled grunts!

Bungie removed All English covenant voices in reach because of the fact that none of the covenant knew English at the time

through out the games, the covenant’s vocabulary increases…
grunts being the slowest to learn, but (i think) one of the first to learn

I preferred when the brutes would yell back “lets eat him”
and the grunts would shout “DEMON! RUN AWAY!”
but I gotta hand it to bungie, they made my pal arby’s brethren look like monsters

Well, they are monsters.

Was it the Covenant speaking English or the Armor just translating?

Edit: sorry, this post is messing up, I posted it, and it just gave me the same thing again.

I’m not with the OP. I greatly appreciated that Bungie ditched the silly english banter. I want Halo enemies to be grittier, scarier, and more alien.

i agree with op the grunts were the best in halo 1-2 but when halo 3 came around the grunts started to act more brave and tough i didn’t like that :frowning:

you’ve killed my brother for the last time!

Grunts were hilarious and still are (I always chuckle when they flee in terror). That said, I wish they still spoke English. Grunts are numerous, weak and used as cannon fodder. The only thing they had going for them was “He killed Yip yap!” And that was all it took to make them my favorite Halo enemies.

Elites can stay serious and deadly (they are honorable and dedicated after all), brutes don’t get enough credit for their intelligence (though minors should be stupid). And Jackals… Well, who cares about Jackals.

Not only did they change the grunt voices, but the Elite mannerisms as well. Back in
Halo: CE you’d kill or knock a shield out, and their neck would waver all serpentine like. Now when you knock out an Elite’s shield he steps back and flexes like the incredible hulk, which is way too human-like for an alien. As far as the enemies go, they really need to take it back to Halo CE/Halo 2 for the next game.

I used to think the HCE and H2 grunts looked cute.

I still do (lol).
