Does anyone else find it incredibly boring after a while just using precision weapons? I feel like automatics at the end of the day take more planning to use and give a personal closeness to your kills.
I wish using the assault rifles was completely valid in all maps, save for BTB.
Always use the AR but everyone else uses DMR’s and BR’s so you just get hammered, no matter how good you are with an AR a fight between them and the precision’s always win. we need more straight AR gameplay
I enjoy using both the AR and SR however rarely do because the BR is by far the better weapon in terms of range and possible kills per clip (hence why I use it over the Carbine).
I don’t think AR only gametypes are the way forward however. Many people dislike using automatics and the AR is a perfectly viable weapon and if you apply basic skills such as strafing and keep it to the preferred close range, you’ll do great. I use the BR in BTB on maps like Exile and usually hold down the B base in its optimal range. When I use the AR against good players, I usually do fine. Then again I don’t sprint out top mid on Shutout like every AR user I seem to ever face. Do remember it has the much faster kill time at close range than any other weapon.

You are 100% right, but in most cases you are much better off taking a BR. The AR will dominate in it’s range but that’s it. BR can be used effectively at almost any range, with the exact same kill time at any range.
I’ve never liked automatic weapons in any FPS. I’ll take a semi-auto weapon all day. The additional skill required to use a smaller reticle is almost always compensated for by being more effective.

> Wut.
Burst firing the AR in Reach dramatically increased its range to levels that would surprise other players. “Sniping” of course is an exaggeration and a joke.
I enjoy the AR, but the first chance I find a BR I either drop the AR or it becomes my secondary. I think precision weapons are incredibly fun if you get good with them.
As much as I like the AR and friends they don’t have a lot to them on their own. You would probably have more support if the auto weapons had more personality.
Unfortunately pretty much all of them are functional clones of the AR, high spread, close range only bullet hoses.
I want to see truly unique auto weapons like the CE Plasma Rifle(solid accuracy, plasma stun, noticeable plasma damage, and even a headshot multiplier, or the scoped ODST SMG. I want to see all auto weapons get a unique niche once again.
As a spawning option however, the AR alone just doesn’t work. That said I have always preferred BR(or DMR)/AR spawns as it adds to the versatility at spawn. The magnums we have had lately have not been enough to make it viable.
Something about precision/auto(in whatever order) spawns just work, whether it is AR/Pistol in CE, BR/SMG in H2, BR/AR in H3, or DMR/AR in Reach.
I used to like the AR a lot . . . but as I slowly got better and moved up a bit in CSR, it’s become increasingly difficult to use effectively.
On the other hand, I’ve begun to like the Magnum a lot as I’ve gotten better with it. It may not work well at high levels of play, but where I’m at now, there are lots of uses for it, and it feels awesome to take out BRs with a pistol.
I love the Assault Rifle. It’s my best friend in any CQC situation. I hope they keep the Halo 4 Assault Rifle deign for the next game. It sounded powerful and overall was a well balanced gun.
Love the AR and the SR (post update Suppressor too nerfed IMHO).
I think automatics get a bad rap in recent titles, which is unfortunate. A) it’s a classic, and B) just because it’s spray and pray doesn’t mean no skill is involved. A skilled shooter can dance a ballet with an automatic and it would be a very, very impressive hosing for the victim. It’s not all noob kills.
That being said, the post-update BR still dominates too much at close range. IMHO the Halo 4 BR encroaches too much on the long range DMR/LR and the close range Autos/pistols. I hope Halo 5 can really nail the delineation between close/medium/ranged weapons, because the same old BR-bath makes every other weapon a curious oddity instead of a valid loadout selection.
I think the series has become rather far removed from automatics. I loved what they did in halo 2 where the duel wielding combination allowed for automatic weapons to be more efficient, but during that time maps were smaller.
Always loved the Assault Rifle. Back in Halo 3, whenever people voted for Slayer BRs, I used the Assault Rifle instead; thing is, people picked BRs so often that it got really boring. Same deal with DMRs in Reach.
It’s one of the perks of Custom Loadouts; being able to choose your own starting weapon. If you want to use a BR, or AR, or DMR, that’s completely up to you. Now all they gotta do is work out the kinks in custom loadouts, (Boltshot, Plasma Pistol & Grenade, etc.).
I’d like to use more of them, but the maps are just better for precision weapons.
But when I do use them, I use Storm rifle. People are quite surprised when I use it. And even more surprised when I win FFA with it.
I’d like it if there was one playlist for automatics in H5, with maps that would be better for them.
