Anyone else worry about the future of Halo?

I cant help but think negatively when I think about the future of halo :frowning: does anyone else feel this way? things like…

  • Xbox One (basically being the console everyone currently hates and is probably going to hate)
  • Halo being Microsoft controlled, and Microsoft -Yoink!- Halo out for as much money as possible (Halo TV/Spielberg)
  • Microsoft making 343 make future Halo’s even more like Cod.
  • A community that is nowadays very small in number and hardly united
  • When Frank O’Connor refers to that community as a subset and not representative of all the people that play Halo
  • Lack of support for e-sports and real professional tournaments
  • A constantly dwindling online population
  • Bungie releasing Destiny, which is set to find a home with the PlayStation crowd (I know its going to be on Xbox too)

Anyone else have any thoughts? I mean I cant even be bothered loading Halo 4 up anymore because I know I’ll just get bullshd by host, or Infinity noobs will only vote for Infinity settings or I’ll be forced to play the same dull looking forge maps over and over again. Or f****s will use ordnances on me, or people will boost and work together in a free for all playlist or people wont play for the win and just go for kills to get their k/d’s up because apparently a high k/d is representative of skill since visible ranks were removed. Or…etc etc.

The other day I heard a random Irish guy in chat say, “this game gets further and further away from Halo everytime I play it ‘potato’”. He then quit and I got what seemed like an hour long black screen only to be kicked back to the lobby, what does that do to my CSR 343? what does it do?

I’m really hoping this weapon update breathes new life into Halo 4 and that there’s some form of good news involving Halo at E3…but it BETTER not be Halo 5 343…its TOO damn soon.

I was scared too at first, really messed up reveal. Reading the tweets of the audience… Ouch. But I think MS can really bull some magic if the address the fears of the gamers swiftly.

Mine were

  1. kinect must always be attached I want to be able to not just disable it but remove it, especially during Halo play. Besides my significant other being paranoid of having a powered camera in the living room, we’ve had Fam who had webcams hacked and we don’t care how secure it is… We want the freedom of doing without and using it only when we want2) I think they already said there will be no used game fee, however I do think it would be a good thing if they dropped prices close to $30-$40 and had a $15-$20 used game fee… It kinda screws over GameStop and such stores but you can get new games cheap and just give the disks to friends who only pay the reduced used installation fee… And the more times this happens, the more people have the game installed and MS still makes more money with less disks printed.

  2. has to connect to the Internet ever day? I think they also said they can probably change that and I hope they do. Any more than 1 update a week will be annoying. Especially giving the average low speeds Americans have here in the US. Please don’t tie my Internet up with daily updates

Of course. How could we not?

I could swear that the xbox one has more preorders than the PS4 in the UK

also the fans have always wanted a TV show/movie

I have already gave up on Halo with what I saw with Halo 4 and how it was handle. I’m just going to other series now.

That’s quite some projection you’ve got going on there. You seem to be thinking up some huge doomsday prophecy and claiming its true.

Lets address this point by point.

Not everyone hates the Xbox one. The Internet over reacted and complained like they do for everything (Sony, apple, etc). The Xbox one will sell a lot of units regardless of what the Internet says.

Halo has been controlled by Microsoft from Day 1. They haven’t been -Yoink!- out Halo for more money. They’ve been very careful with their brand. If they weren’t, you’d see as much merchandise as you do for Angry Birds. THAT is -Yoink!- out.

Unless the next Halo is like CoD, I doubt anyone is making anyone do anything.

The community is small and hardly united because they’re toxic and do not treat each other with respect. Only the community can change that, not 343 or Microsoft or Master Chief or Halo 5.

Frank o Connor is right. YOU ARE A SUBSET. The Waypoint community or online community does not represent the majority or everyone who bought Halo games.

Seems like AGL is holding tournaments and -Yoink!- is getting the word out for e sports. Not that it matters anyway since e sports are in a decline.

The population is a big ? mark with no possible way to find out exactly why it is dwindling. It seems to have stabilized around where it is now. Even then, who cares because you can still play online.

Bungle releasing Destiny is not the be all, end all especially if it releases on the Playstation or ONLY the Playstation. There is still more than enough gamers on Xbox to play more than one game at a time. No one is going to abandon Xbox, halo and everything they have done on Xbox to buy a Playstation and destiny. If anything they can buy destiny and Halo 5.

I think you need to settle down and relax with the doomsday prophecies. Those are my thoughts.

EDIT: bungle releasing Destiny. Not halo. Typo.

Man, I already moved on…

Believe me, if there was someone who loved this franchise dearly, it was me. Hell, I used to patrol these forums daily (before and after launch).

Halo is now dead to me. Halo 4 has eliminated any desire to even revisit the original games.

Biggest disappointment this gen, hands down. While the Campaign is more than decent, the Multiplayer and Forge is just a slap in the face.

Not to mention, the XBone isn’t my ideal future home for this franchise. No reason to even buy the console now.

So long, Halo.

You will be missed. Sorely.

Alright bye bye.

Microsoft bought FASA, which was the company that made the MechWarrior series of PC games. MechWarrior had a fan base that rivals the Star Wars/Star Trek fan base. Under Microsoft they put out three PC games and an expansion pack. Then they ceased making PC games. When the Xbox came out they made 2 MechWarrior games, then ceased production of those. That was about 20 years ago. We all thought MechWarrior was dead.

It’s back, it’s free to play online, and it doesn’t have anything to do with Microsoft.

Anything can happen.

It’s quite sad actually :frowning:

Not really. IF Halo were to end soonish I’d be happy the series wended with some dignity rather than being dragged out

I´m not. Xbox One is a must buy for me. Halo TV series is a must watch and i really hope to enjoy the next Halo more than i enjoy this one. No reason to be worried about the future of Halo.

This is my 1st HALO.

As long as I can find full lobbies I am happy! :stuck_out_tongue:

OK, but rly, look @ GOWJ and take note, now that is a disaster,
I don’t know enough about HALO and this installment,
But 2-10 ppl playing on some modes WORLD WIDE on GOWJ,
Thats only 2 months after release also.

Fans when rly hurt, do not come back or buy the next installment,
Just look @ GOWJ again, 75% less sales then GOW3.

Bad year for us gamers and loyal fans,
Seems most of these companies are just rehashing off each other now,
Originality lacking and longevity in question for 2013.

Many more purchase just books and do not even play Halo. Then there are Halo toys, clothing and so on. MM is a small part of Halo and Halo 4. The people on this forum are a subset of people who play Halo 4 MM. The majority who play Halo 4 MM and Halo Reach MM or Halo 3 MM do not frequent these forums…they are too busy playing Halo! Thus, O’Connor is correct!</mark>

halo 4 is by far the worst halo, I’ve been playing other halo’s as well as: Gears of War, Uncharted, Starcraft and Metal Gear solid (offline of course), I also play a lot of other games on and offline, but those are the biggest

Did you mean you play other games as well instead of “playing other halos as well”?

No i am not halo wasn’t about being MLG pro. Halo was about being master chief and what his adventures would be. I play halo for the story every character i meet every location i care about i have every book every comic every action figure.

Halo is much more then being a competitive gamer if halo dies because of that i feel sad for video games. I will be with halo till the day it ends.

I play halo to be somebody i can be in no other game the experiences and adventures i go on the people i meet the places i go to are special to me and will always be.

I actually could not put that any better

This is how I felt whilst reading your post

Let me guess “The multiplayer was bad so the whole game was bad”

I don’t care. The last Halo game should have been H3. So dying later than sooner, I don’t give a care.
