Anyone else worried about what ske7ch said the other day about the monetization?

OP I felt this so hard the first few days, it was clear there is no passion in this game, if there was we wouldn’t be missing core features like choosable playlists, proper customization, all OG game types. This game is nothing more than a highly glossed up cash grab, I recommend uninstalling it and sticking to MCC if you want to actually enjoy experiencing Halo games.

Anyone who asks for microtransactions in general are fools.

I don’t think anyone really asks for them.

especially with how horrible some of the challenges are that people aren’t gonna wanna deal with them and end up buying challenge swaps to get rid of them

It’s going to make money regardless, but they don’t have to do a terrible mobile f2p gacha style game of monetization

Worry? I’m not sure I understand you.

Do you think removing mtx and going back to dlc packs is on the table?

MTX is going nowhere. That’s not even an option, sorry. Whoever is in this forum thinking that store is going anywhere has not been paying attention to the Industry.

And that’s the problem. AAA devs shouldn’t be allowed to go Free to Play OR to put Microtransactions into their games. Make a good game that’s flourishing with content on day 1 and you’ll NEVER need to worry about money, EVER.

$60 + three or so $15-$20 dlc packs

Vs

F2P game (low barrier of entry for players) and opportunity for continual purchases that far exceed the usual revenue.

By season 3 next year a single player could spend double or triple the amount he spent on the entirety of Halo 4’s life span.

As far as multiplayer goes this is life now. I don’t even blame devs for doing it, it’s common sense at this point. The $60 multiplayer game with paid dlc packs is extinct.

Halo CE-4 didn’t run on dedicated servers, they ran p2p. And guess what, Halo 5, the first game to run on dedicated servers, had a form of continued monetization. Almost like there’s a correlation between the two things or something. Halo 5 also got several years of free gameplay updates, so even though it launched a little bare bones, by the time it was done Halo 5 MP was an incredibly feature rich product, and you didn’t have to spend an extra penny if you didn’t want to. Halo infinite is doing exaclty the same thing, except the base gameplay is generally more in line with what traditional halo fans want, and after people endlessly complained about loot boxes and pay to win in Halo 5 they’ve shifted to a cosmetic only monetisation model. Its not perfect at the moment, 343 definitely need to strike a better balance, but people need to accept that a one off $60 payment just isn’t a feasible business model for a AAA fps games anymore (particularly when you factor in that Halo CE launched for $50 20 years ago, factoring in inflation that’s $80 of todays money) especially if you expect any updates to the game post launch.

Y’know that’s assuming Infinite isn’t barren by the end of it’s first year.

Dunno what you mean by this. But if it’s content it’s unlikely that’ll be the case.

I agree that the monetization needs to stoo but at the same time i agree we have to pay for something if we are getting an amazing game for free for the most part. I would also like to add that it is not entirely 343s fault. Alot of people forget that when sketch said not many people like halo being f2p he meant microsoft and xbox the marketing teams are nit 343 its microsoft that made the business model for the store purchases.

Warzone is F2P, buy they don’t monetize weapon attaches and standard camos

Right,

Question I would and he would dodge would be

Why the rotating, drip feed method for the store.
Why can we earn credits on game.

Why are basic playlist modes being used as event fillers

I agree. I never bought the physical disc either, there’s no point in doing so anyway because there is no game on the disc, just access to download it.

Life is also too short. Too many other good games to play imo.

Not sure exactly what you mean but those are definitely questions that need to be repeated sent to 343.

Them making armor paywall trapped. Would be like COD making weapon attachments and the basic weapons and camps paywall trapped

The paywall and the way they are trying to pigeon hole people into spending in the shop has killed the MP for me honestly. I may have played H5 MP for one or two days but quit that completely, so I can quit this too.
People have been reminding me that I don’t have to pay, which is true, but the motivation 343 has is to make as much money as possible, not to profit from a passionately made game. That is my view at least, and I don’t want to support that by bloating the active player numbers.
I just hope the campaign is mind blowing.
Finished it today 12-11-21. It wasn’t mind blowing.

Absolutely I feel the same. I try not to be too harsh in my critique because I know these are people at the end of the day, and I myself work in an area where we can get exposed to this level of vitriol…but with that said, it would be wrong of me to hold back from my honest and fair critique.

The argument he’s making is fundamentally flawed, even from a fiscal business standpoint.

Costs haven’t gone up that much to necessitate this kind of business model that, frankly, is predatory. It’s abhorrent.

They could have set a standard here, having a similar model with monetisation, but kept elements from the past 20 years…they chose not to.

To be frank, it’s just another in a long line of let downs from 343.

Honestly is customizing your Spartan worth paying possibly 80 to 200 bucks for stuff that you’re Ally only notice in the intro and only the outro if you win
