Anyone else worried about what ske7ch said the other day about the monetization?

exactly, and that’s why I’m saying you’re confusing value for value.

yes, people value it.
Because they don’t realize it doesn’t hold any value at all.
If they don’t buy it they wouldn’t be any different for it, same for people who do buy it. Nothing changes because it holds no value.

Sure bud, now you’re just trying to end the conversation before actually adding anything

What?.. it is valued by the customer, so of course it has value. That value is the dollar they put into it. You are merely asserting something has no value when people are literally sacrificing dollars for cosmetics.

I’m just not going to waste any more time talking to someone who isn’t even responding to the actual words of my comments, if you want to have a conversation you can go back to about a half an hour ago where I already laid out exactly what you’re asking me to and respond to that in good faith. I’m not going to repeat myself for your benefit.

DLC content is how they should be making their money especially if the game is really good and then a DLC comes out that adds an even better things to do instead game and if Bethesda or obsidian goes with the microtransactions route I really hope it’s the same as like fallout 4’s creation club content and skyrim’s creation club content and that’s how it stays and it doesn’t get any worse than that

The monetization is what has me worried the most.

Like, the entire point loses any ground it might have when you stop and realize Halo and 343 are owned by Microsoft. You know, one of the largest companies on the planet? Who, probably host and maintain their own servers to begin with?

Like, I’m sorry but this isn’t an indie company or a small game studio. This is the studio behind Xbox’s biggest IP. It’s hard to get passed that and look at it as anything but cash grabbing.

Money and keeping the servers up is the furthest thing from an actual issue possible.

Like, Microsoft is huge even when compared to Epic and the powerhouse that Fortnite is. And, somehow manage a more predatory monetization scheme? Yeah, no. I don’t believe for a second the excuse given is anything but an excuse.

Hell, Microsoft even owns Minecraft. They’re not hurting for money or profit.

Whatever, if you can’t even be bothered then bye have a good day

Entertainment only has value if people see value in it.
So, if people see value in gameplay or cosmetic changes, it has value.

I’m dearly going to miss your company, trust me

Right. Misplaced ‘‘value’’.

Again, confusing value with value.
People may force value onto something but it really does not have value.

sure you are while scurrying away

Please tell me what value is if you have the objective value of all things then. Even though economics is literally based on people’s perception and their varying degrees of value.

Congratulations, you just figured out my point.

I just ignored him. He really doesn’t even try to be civil in how he presents his points and as you said earlier, just argues in bad faith and fails to follow up.
He is just trying to turn it into a semantic dispute, without defending anything, just going after people that value cosmetics. Which, technically can have an affect on gameplay. If you wear certain colors on certain maps you will be more noticeable

No no no. Tell me. What is valuable in this world? You can merely give me a short list.

Believe this thread needs a time out. I’m gonna unlock this after two hours and hopefully we can all talk like adults then.

Unlocked now. Stay on topic and stay away from all the personal conflicts or I’ll just have to lock this thread permanently.

I’m way more worried that people are going to complain about the BP so much that 343 is going to overlook the issues that affect actual game function.

I’m sure their 700+ employees is enough to focus on more than one issue at a time.

Am I worried? Not really, but that is in large part because I don’t hold myself hostage by a self-imposed need for cosmetics and I know that if I feel like playing some Halo I can do so without spending a dime. Because at the end of the day that’s what this is, a free Halo game (the MP, that is).

My lack of worry is furthered by the understanding that change does (in fact) take time regardless of the insistence of a bunch of people on a forum about how easy this is or how quick that is. That they’re already responding to feedback on a pre-release build is encouraging, and there is a big difference between “they’re not doing/telling us anything” and “they’re not doing/telling us the things we want to see/hear”.

People raging over changes to Halo games is as old as Halo 2, ditto people claiming this or that will kill the franchise, ditto this or that is worse than that or this ever was. Anyone who was around the Bungie forums during all the nonsense about how MLG was informing game design and thus ruining Halo in Halo 2/3 will remember as much. Fixes take time. I agree that the challenge system and gametype limitations are negatively impacting gameplay. I agree that the battlepass is sparsely populated. Based on dudes response, it seems they agree to some level regarding those issues, but it will take time to completely overhaul their gameplay loop in an FTP setting.

Best part is, it’s not like they took the money and ran here. They’re LITERALLY in a position where they will HAVE to keep making changes and improvements to convince people to buy into the pass and microtransactions, it’s in their best interest to do so. Reality is those changes and fixes will not be spontaneous, and their never gonna please everyone. People who are raging over the whole concept because “its just not Halo” will likely never get to a happy place with FTP, and so be it. Keep in mind though, Halo isn’t made for you, or me, or that guy over there, it’s made for millions of people. You will literally never please anyone, rings all the more true in a highly toxic community.

So no, I’m not worried. Cautious about giving them any money? Absolutely. Worried they’re gonna ignore legit feedback and let the game suffocate under a meaningful loss in player base? Not at all. Keep feedback coming, but keep perspective.
