Anyone else worried about what ske7ch said the other day about the monetization?

Summary

So the community wants the customization monetization gone and given what was promised to us and what we were told about customization and then Ske7ch came out a few days ago and said this.

“Not everyone likes that Infinite is a F2P game and thus has a new business model based on monetization of customization. I understand where you’re coming from, especially with a 20 year established franchise with a longstanding legacy. F2P has been a huge boost to growing the player base and we’ve seen a huge amount of new players entering the franchise for the first time ever. But this is a business - the servers you play on cost money to operate. The studio that develops and maintains the game costs money. Battlepass and premium customization is the model for this game today. Is there room to continue assessing the overall economy and value for players? Absolutely and that’s also an area the team is constantly monitoring and learning. The creation of cosmetics and the battlepass have absolutely nothing to do with something like a playlist. That content was created ages ago, is static, and wasn’t done ‘instead of playlists.’ Was it a priority to make sure that this game could in fact generate revenue? Of course.”

Does anyone else find this worrisome? It feels like he’s saying “look we know you guys want the customization back that you’ve had for 20 years now but f**k you guys pay us money everything costs money.”

It’s like they forget even with a fully paid $60 game the servers were paid for as well as everything else. This boils down to greed and I for one will not spend another dime on thos until we get everything we were promised. I f****d up and bout the BP and the cloud9 set.

But does anyone else feel the same way?

I think they are hiding behind it being free for sure.
We all know that the servers cost money, but they are acting like it’s incidental and not intentional.
FTP very obviously isn’t a result of needing to pay for servers.
The reason they did it was it makes more money, plain and simple.
They could have very easily had a less aggressive shop and made us buy the game.
I’m probably in the minority that doesn’t hate the idea of more expensive up front costs like $70 games. I think it’s inevitable.

“We know everyone just wants to be able to play any playlist any time they choose and have a challenge system that rewards their actual performance, but if we did that from the start then we couldn’t get people to spend more time in game grinding RNG based playlists for timed events and challenges and hence be more likely to buy something, and these servers aren’t going to pay for themselves, yo”
Yeah, nah.

The guy can use the best servers in the world and is backed up by one of the richest companies in the world. Yet, they don’t want to lower the prices of bundles, so instead of only 2% of the player base buying them 90%+ will buy them on a regular basis. They will even make more money that way! It is not as if they will run out of digital goods anyway.

Yeah, I mean it’s not like the servers are paid for by Microsoft. you know one of the largest cooperations on the planet Clearly they need every last penny from us.

It’s kind of sad how they are handling the F2P issues, all we know ist a business model but we have for a decade a very functional model when you have a lot of customization options for you spartan (getting better in Halo 5 IMO) I’m not against the monetization but come on those prices are just ridiculous and even they aren’t so good. For me the best model of monetization is CoD you got very very cool stuff that worth what you spend.

What’s even worse is that there is a deleted post from last year, I don’t have the link but I’ll try to find it, where they pretty much said the opposite of what ske7ch said. I’d rather spend $20 for map packs than this crap

The December 2020 Inside Infinite? They brought that back.

(add the h to https)

Still isn’t a good look for them at all, though.

Mate we’ve been worried since before this even launched…

Everyone complains about microtransactions being pay to win in Halo 5 and asks for cosmetic only microtransactions.

Everyone proceeds to complain about cosmetic only microtransactions in Halo Infinite.

The problem is that the model they’re using now is objectively more intrusive into normal matchmaking. You could play Halo 5 team slayer without having to deal without microtransactions. They launched Halo Infinite without slayer because of microtransactions.

Yeah, but the playlists are the bigger problem. Some stuff is horrendously overpriced, but I just don’t buy it if I don’t want it. It’s not some requirement to own every single piece of armor ever released for this game.

That’s exactly what I’m talking about. I don’t understand how anyone can’t see that the microtransaction model they are rolling with is the reason there are no playlists.

It’s simple:
-They believe that the more time you spend in game grinding challenges, the more likely you are to buy something
-Therefore, they give you random challenges and restrict playlists to a random grab bag, making challenges based on chance and impossible to complete simply by going to the correct playlist

The easier it is for you to get in the game, play exactly what you want to and get out, the less likely you are to buy things. So they’ve intentionally made the game less fun in order to fuel microtransactions.

He basically said that nothing is going to change as long as people carry on buying stuff.

Pretty much. F2P will probably make them the most money. I respect that as a business decision.
I do not respect that decision as a fan.
I’ll speak for myself when I say they aren’t entitled to any goodwill, patience, sympathy or understanding and if they get any of that from the community they should be grateful. This is only business after all.

The issue with the mtx system they have now is that they locked ~80% of the customization behind a paywall, when they explicitly stated that there would be tons of free to unlock customization options for the armors. They’ve broken yet another promise in terms of the development of the game.

Maybe we will be able to carry the challenge swaps and exp boosts in a future update like Sam in Death Stranding?

Nope. They have burned my bridge.
Everyone liked the pat them on the back for “transparency” but its just an attempt to buy good will to counter backlash they knew was coming.
I’m done investing money in halo.
Rubicon protocol may well be my last direct halo purchase.
I’ll play infinite on gamepass cancelled my physical release.
Life is too short to care about halo anymore

Sorry buddy. It has been a frustrating time for all of us. Maybe we will live to see the redemption arc. I doubt it tho.

I am gonna get roasted, but I don’t mind Halo being Battlepass oriented, its awesome for player base and business. That being said, if I am going to buy the battlepass for $10, I want content. As it stands right now, the Battlepass is not worth $10. Especially with the over all customization being scuffed with armor cores and what not.

If you want to have a Battlepass, make the Battlepass worth its cost. Give back to the players that are giving you money. Just as well, let free to play players get SOMETHING from playing the game. Like come on, they get like 5 things in 100 levels.
