lets talk about control settings,i always used to play standard and the default settings for this were:(in reach)
left stick(press):crouch
right stick(press):scope
right stick:look around
left stick:run
A:jump
B:meele
X:change nades
Y:change weapons
RT:shoot
LT:throwing nades
RB:action/reloading
LB:AAs
now how does this look like in halo 4? few things were confirmed:
left stick(press):sprint(confirmed to be on left stick)
right stick(press):scope(most likely)
right stick:look around(most likely)
left stick:run(most likely)
A:jump(most likely)
B:crouch(also confirmed)
X:change nades(not sure)
Y:change weapons(most likely)
RT:shoot(most likely)
LT:throwing nades(most likely)
RB:action/reloading(most likely)
LB:second AA(most likely)
where shall the meele button be? and crouching not on the left stick? how shall this work?
my idea would look like this:
left stick(press):crouch
right stick(press):scope
right stick:look around
left stick:run
A:jump
B:meele
X:action/reload like in pervious halos
Y:change weapons
RT:shoot
LT:throwing nades
RB:second AA
LB:sprint
and changing nades would be on the D-Pad.But then theres the problem with AAs,how could we shoot while holding RB for the jetpack?
mh i just thought twice about it and i realized its pretty good, cause the AAs would not be too powerful cause you could not shoot while using them,RB and LB could be easily exchanged by each other,so i dont care if LB would be Rb or the other way round
i definitely want to play on halo 3/reach settings but how do they want to do this?
the problem is that there are now 2 important actions you have to do with the left button when pressed in.
I posted about this a while back. Yes I’m wondering how much the changes in the control scheme will change my gameplay. Or will there be a perfect control scheme for me to use to make the transition seamless.
Under default controls left stick makes me sprint, not sure if I want to adapt to that. But I guess ill have to if there are no better options.
Same as reach’s default scheme, except sprint will be left stick while moving (and crouch is l stick while stationary). I see that as the best solution.
They said they’ve got some more control lay-outs for H4 than for previous Halo title’s. So there must be one that suits you the best. And I’m pretty sure they’ve playtested the ‘flood’ out of the configurations
#1 I bet 343i will be very respectful toward the control set up, I’ll have to ask my friend if he remembers the default set up for Halo 4 when he played the beta in New York. #2 I would love it if 343i would give us the ability to customize our own controller set up.
With all the talk about customizing your Spartan the way you want, and using the sandbox to suit your play style, and giving players tons of options, and the ability to play the game how you want to, it would be very hypocritical to not allow the player to set up how they wish to control their character how they wish.
Seriously, button mapping (custom controls) can’t be that difficult of a feature to implement. Why not offer a few ‘recommended’ options followed by a ‘create your own’ option? Then everyone is happy.
Unfortunately, the way I see it panning out, is the options they will give you will not allow for an armor ability to be placed anywhere on the controller where joystick movement will be sacrificed. What I mean by this, is that you probably won’t be able to place sprint or your 2nd ability in a spot where your thumbs will move off of either the left or right stick to activate it. In their minds, having to sacrifice your movement (feet, or vision) would make having the ability useless, example being the jetpack and not having the ability to look around or move forward or backward.
But since I don’t want/need any of those ridiculous 2nd abilities (just give me the BR/DMR like the good old days), I’d like to at least move one of them over to a button I have no intention of pressing during the match, such as a direction on the D-Pad. Why should I sacrifice a more useful button for something I don’t plan on using?

:o!!! what!! your friend played it :O!! what did he tell you about it?
What the default controls will most likely be, especially given the latest info from MLG players:
A-jump
B-crouch(toggle?)
X-reload
y-switch guns
L-stick(click)-sprint
R-stick(click)-zoom
RT-shoot(of course)
RB-melee
LT-grenade
LB-AAs
D-pad-grenade switching?
Now, of course people will likely cry foul at this new button layout, obviously since it greatly resembles another certain game coming out around the same time. But if 343i thinks this controller layout works best, I’m willing to give it a try, as I hardly ever change the default control schemes in games (just makes things a hassle for me personally).
They will most likely put change grenade type to The dpad since it is not something you need to access easily. Thatll free up a main button for something else

I think the main problem with completely customizable controls is directly related to input lag. Although It has been said in numerous Halo 4 impression write ups that there are many more control setups then in the past, so I am not worried. Bumper Jumper 4 life!

You should ask your friend if toggle crouch is default now! (as opposed to having to hold the button down to crouch like other halo games)
I don’t like Sprint being the left stick and crouch being the B button, it will make it a pain to walk and crouch effectively. Then again, it might not be so bad with toggle crouch instead of hold to crouch…
It might take a while to get used to these new controls, but I have a feeling I’ll learn to like them, just as I have in the past.
I’m quite concerned, yes. I fear the control schemes will all be based around these two different abilities, and that they’ll be using up useful buttons even when I’m playing without them.
They need to have the option to have two separate schemes for gametypes with abilities, respectively without.
I want bumper jumper, essentially, for when the gametype doesn’t include AAs, with a couple of small alterations.
I feel this is one thing we neecd to particularly stress to our good people at 343. Free button mapping, to a certain extent (some buttons may only be usable for certain things), does need to be in the game.
