Am I the only one who doesn’t like the Motion Trackers in Halo 4…? it’s like… every red dot has the same colour on them, no matter if they’re above or below you… In Reach, the red dots on the Motion Trackers were blurred and weak red coloured, so you could tell that he’s not on the same surface/floor at you… This has become really annoying when (especially) playing Gametypes such as Multi Team, Regicide etc… It’s like… all of sudden there are red dots EVERYWHERE… and you basically don’t have time to watch every single of the dam red dots (as they’re moving), because you want to act fast… I mean sure… there are small arrows either above or belove the red rod, depending on weather he’s above or below you… But I find it still annoying… Since I’m a fast player, I have to act fast and localise the real threat… And what happens? I end up sitting there wondering which one of these -Yoinks!- are near me or not, and BAM! dead… Out of confusion… Anyone else with the same problem? I know it does sound ridiculous, but I prefer the Halo Reach radar…
I can read the radar fine on both games without problem. I voted for Halo 4 since I haven’t touched Reach in ages.
Halo Reach definitely has the superior radar. While I can understand Halo 4’s without any issues, Reach’s seems much more clear and easier to understand at a glance. Plus, I hate the insane range on Halo 4’s radar…
Reach. Way better radar.
None of the Halo games have ever had radars. They have, however, had motion trackers. There’s a difference.
Pet peeve.
Halo 4 by far. Reach’s motion tracker is odd and blurry.
I personally liked Halo 1’s, 2’s, and 3’s motion trackers the most, because they only gave you an approximate idea of where the guy was. As the manuals for those games stated, the motion tracker just told you around where the guy was when he was moving, and whether he was above or below you was something you had to figure out for yourself. Reach’s tracker gave elevation estimation with the whole blurred dots thing, which I thought kinda took away from the original idea of the motion tracker, but at least it didn’t tell you what vehicle was coming at your or which elevation specifically the guy was on.
So, yeah, gonna have to go with Reach here, but personally the retro trackers were the best.
I don’t really need to know what kind of vehicle that’s nearby, because that’s pretty much easy to figure out the Banshee moves fast and the radar will tell you that it’s a flying vehicle anyway. The rest is easy to figure out by the sound and movement of it… So I had no problem at all with the Reach’s Radar, I guess it had everything a radar needed. And again, 343I has to change something that’s working perfectly fine… The Reach sniper is another example…I like the way it was.
The fact that it states the vehicle is pretty neat and Cool. Reach’s was like this squished tiny thing. Halo 4 is this nice big circle, not a squished oval so tiny. It is clear, not this blurry thing. It is precise, it gives information. Good.

This. I am especially against the Halo 4 radar as it is way to big, and reveals way too much information.
Halo’s key to victory was always awareness, but with Halo 4’s big radar, it is not.

IMO, the Reach sniper was overpowered on vehicles. They also made the radar easier to read in 4.
Halo 4.
Reach’s version has yucky motion blur.
> Halo 4 by far. Reach’s motion tracker is odd and blurry.
Really? It looks just fine to me. Not really that blurry, mostly just when people are moving too fast. At least it’s range is more reasonable than that monster in Halo 4, especially with Sensor…
Though I have to say, it is clearer to tell where they are in terms of whether they’re above or below in Halo 4 plus it does tell me what vehicle is coming…
Also, it’s MOTION TRACKER. I don’t understand where radar is coming from…

Well if you’d get on… I could show you. I find that the large motion tracker range helps with the maps.
Arrows work for me better.
Anything you can possibly complain about huh guys, anyway halo 4, because it has elevation markers.

i would go so far and say that the whole radar thing came from the fact that its easier to say Radar than Motion Tracker.
I mean, I keep calling the blue ball thingy radar even though I know its a motion tracker, because its easier to say Radar.

I’m seriously confused… xD I guess they’re Motion Trackers then

Which were scaled up for sprint…
I don’t like how large they are, and how it doesn’t tell you how big it is. In Reach I can see a red dot and turn and shoot instantly. In H4 it’s freaking huge, you see a red dot right next to you and think “I’ll turn this corner and waste the guy camping right around it”, but they’ll be 20 feet away because it’s so damn extended. “oh this guy is right behind me, I’ll turn and melee”, nope they’re 20 feet away. 25m radar plox.

Same reason people use the term ‘Bloom’ for the change in accuracy based on rate of fire, even though it’s actually just the name for the visual representation (Blooming Reticule, which changes based on spread modifiers to show you an approximation of where your bullet may go, it’s why it changes based on reloads etc. as well as fire rate). The guns would perform the same without the ‘bloom’ visual aid, but it’s easier for people to just associate it with the spread functions, and collectively call them ‘bloom’.
‘Motion tracker’ is something that works based on motion only for enemies, but doesn’t even have to (it can show enemies at all times), and it shows your teammates at all times, plus the visual looks like the classic visual you think of when you hear ‘radar’.
Basically it’s the name people associate with the function even if it’s not the actual term.
