Anyone else very concerned about the recent...

… Turn the franchise appears to be taking? I mean the Chief, possibly becoming an antagonist or at the very least a pseudo-antagonist… Heh, I just want to see where this all leads. Like what #HuntForTheTruth, Halo 5, and other sources of media are going to do to the current direction of the franchise. I have a feeling everything is going to change soon and as a diehard Chief fanboy, I’m genuinly concerned that I might not like it. Who will become a victim? Who will become a foe? Will we soon be questioning everything Halo has been up to this point? Will the next couple of stories create more questions than answers??

What are your thoughts on the issue?

Personally, I think Halo should have ended with Halo 3 rather than 343 messing up the storyline.

Although I think Halo 5: Guardians is going to leave a few plot holes, but I’m guessing nothing too big.

I’m not terribly confident either. It’s being written by the person who wrote Escalations. I really hope it turns out to be great. I hope.

You think Halo 3 had zero plot holes? C’mon. I don’t see how Halo 4 “messed” up the storyline. It’s a whole new saga, it’s kinda hard to mess something up that you had no control over whatsoever.

Eh, I think 343i is making the storyline more interesting. It could be worse; they could make a story about a magic sphere that makes everything better in one solar system at a time.

Whaaaaa?

I think 343i has done well with their handling of the lore. They’ve had a few hiccups with a few characters perhaps, but overall I enjoy what they’re bringing forth. There is a much bigger scope now: Chief, UNSC/ONI, Covenant, Forerunners, Flood.

Hmmmm where have I seen that before? Giant sphere that makes the universe a better place huh? Oh I know! Star Wars episode 4 with the Death Star! /s

I enjoy the turn it’s taking, honestly. It branches out from the whole ‘Kill the Aliens, and save the world!’ thing, and outputs a more Mass Effect-ish vibe; Which, can be a really refreshing take on Halo.

100% this.

No I’m very encouraged by what I’ve seen so far and looking forward to seeing the final product

I think the closer intent of 343 is to give Chief flaws, flaws that may lead him to a more antagonistic role in Halo 5 based on the context of the story, but that isn’t bad. Plenty of heroes throughout mythology and fiction have done some bad hings yet still were heroes through and thorough. Gilgamesh was a despot before becoming the righteous king of Urk. Hercules was a hothead and -Yoink-, yet still displayed feats of strength that inspired ancient Greeks. David slew Goliath and kicked Philistine -Yoink- for the Israelites yet allowed his passions to get the best of him and resulted in one of his commanders getting killed. What will Chief do? Who knows, but he is in good company.

You say he’s in good company… but you state your dislike for the work displayed by the current lead writer thus far. Thats not good company. If it was in the hands of Chris Schlerf, I’d agree.

I get more and more excited on the storyline, rather than being disappointed

I’m quite interested to see where they go with Locke, personally.

Mistakes were obviously made, but I can see 343’s intention, and I like it.

Very thought provoking, as ever DC… I liked the comparisons to heroes in ancient mythology, and see where you’re coming from… I’m certain Halo 5 will be riveting and compelling, but I’m such a Chief fanboy I’m just a little concerned what will happen to him is all…

I highly doubt Chief will exit Halo this title. Mark my words, he will die at the end of Halo 6.

Maybe… Or maybe he just goes MIA again.
